Diamond aerogel

Aerogels are cool, diamonds are cool, so this is doubly cool: http://io9.com/#!5800230/new-diamond-aerogel-is-so-light-that-its-like-f... http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2011/05/02/1010600108.abstract Now, the material strength doesn't seem to be that amazing, but I can imagine properly nanofactured aerogel to be far firmer. So you would have something transparent, very thermally insulating, with a density of 40 kg per cubic meter and likely very resilient. Plus, potentially extremely abrasive.

Ah, you bastard. I'd just read the same article on io9 like an hour ago and was gushing about it to a friend. Oh well, it's still very exciting stuff, especially insofar as the applications to quantum computing.

Good for implants, too. It's light but immensely durable by most conventions. Who knows? Soon, we might see areogel robot arms.
