An interesting potential view of a TITAN forest
Sunward mentions the TITAN forests, which are completely artificial "forests" that are hostile to transhumanity. Richard Hardy, an architecture grad from London, did a short film called "The Transcendent City" that gives one idea of what a TITAN forest that was not completely artificial could look like. It looks very peaceful in this interpretation, but what if this kind of TITAN forest maintained a perfect equilibrium with its environment but saw transhumanity as a disruptive force to its environment and worked to eliminate it? Delicious. Architects and designers often come up with concept drawings that are great inspiration for game environments. The above forest reminds me of this much nicer bioengineered forest and this slightly creepy forest with interesting arthropods - perhaps what you would find on an outer habitat with too many bored bioengineers. Philip Toledano has made some photos that really gives good ideas for weird nanoviral infections. Philip Beesley has made a number of cybernetic sculptures that look like TITAN life. This video is probably the BadgerBadgerBadger of exsurgent cows. There is also a short story by Clifford Pickover, "There will be soft cows" that is one of the creepiest description of a post-normal countryside ever - that might be how people trapped involuntarily in a TITAN simspace live.

More inspirational videos: http://vimeo.com/9486977 - suggests an interesting kind of home swarmbot/flexbot. It is a display, it cleans the floor and walls, it forms aesthetic patterns. I expect many homes to have something like this. And here is yet another AR vision, this one for some crappy ectos with faulty spamfilters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uJTePf89Xk&feature=player_embedded#! Some retro clothing for the well-dressed hyperelite (tinitol is so old that it is positively stylish!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gseEISuEd74 Software for enhancing facial attractiveness. Currently running on photos, but I can imagine it as a morph selection and customization tool: sketch your appearance, and then it makes it beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVbrUuwK-8g And here is a method for making a kind of mural of a video: http://vis.cs.ucdavis.edu/~correac/dvn/index.html I can imagine EP security systems showing such murals to their owners when they ask what has happened.

Thanks, your resources as usual are very inspiring.

Another art project, this time dealing with genetically engineering plants to produce sound: http://www.davidbenque.com/projects/acoustic-botany This kind of gardening is definitely going on in EP. This video (and accompanying soundtrack) of a Mandelbox zoom gives a good sense of the alienness of TITAN devices: http://vimeo.com/13886600

Here is some more AR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyCyzB0CedM&feature=player_embedded#! The fun part is that in EP, the environment they are running around in is the real attraction and simspace ("Wow! Look at that realistic Earth environment!") while the overlays are ironic retro-lowtech.

A worthy follow-up to the exsurgent cows, here are some exsurgent sheep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WQO-aOdJLiw

"It is spiders all the way up!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISuMxWkgFQw&feature=player_embedded Now this gives me some lovely ideas for scaring arachnophobic players.
