You also get a free firewall with every system, my guess is that includes mesh inserts.
Considering there's a standard issue firewall in every device, I think they'd probably be more trouble than they're worth to annotate individually. They're normally already accounted for in the hacking rules, so are only a modifier if they're not there, outdated, or particularly good. What might be more helpful (and I don't think would be very difficult to implement) is an optional text field for item notes, so that it could include firewall modifiers or any other custom features that the player adds. If there's nothing in the field, it displays on the sheet exactly as it does now. If there is something in the field, it appears appended to the item name, like basic mesh inserts (+20 firewall). Of course, you could also just cover that by using the custom gear/implant slots if it's only a handful of items -- an item notes field would be most valuable for characters who are doing lots of gear modifications.

I'd really love to see a character/campaign/whatever notes page added if that's possible. I've been using the sheet for a campaign where my PCs have been keeping notes in separate .txt files. Things like tracking when they used favors, a bit of back story, description of their habits, etc... does that sound like something that could be worked into a new page of the printable sheet with some big editable fields?

Hi there I greatly appreciate this tool, and have to thank you for making it. I dont know if it have been mentioned here already but I have found some minor errors so maybe you can look at it in version ,94. I have found that all instances of the Lunar Flier morph are are spelled Luner, and that prehensile tail is priced as Moderate, even though in core book its price is Low.

Good Catch, I'll incorporate those right away.

Re: character sheet by JMobius
The Rimward is going to be released shortly and you have mentioned you are not releasing a new version of the sheet until that happens. So I would like to add some things that maybe you could consider adding to the .94 version. I was trying to add too many negative traits to my morph, and I really would like to have them, even without the bonus ( I want a raging alcoholic ugly-ass martian redneck), so i was thinking if there could be a way to add them even without the bonus, because then the checklist in the beginning shows I haven't spend all my CP even though I don't want/can't have them. I know it is only a cosmetic change but I still thought like pointing it out. And the other thing I missed a little is a background box that you can write your own background into (maybe even for each identity it's own) And once again thanks very much for your hard work on this amazing project.

One other thing I spotted just now, in the description of Steel morph, it's again spelled luner . And the ammo price calculations can't handle buying 50 bullets ( well anything less than 100 costs the same as 100 rounds)

Right now I am well into the 0.94 sheet it should be done within the next week or two. Unless I make a horrible error that breaks things all over the place the 0.95 sheet will come out as soon after Rimward as possible. So for the next week or so. All manageable recommendations requests that are made should be included. Will

Hi again. I know you are working hard, and I greatly appreciate all your work, but I have a suggestion/request that I would love to see and that's customization of your muses skills (other than those 3 knowledge skills) or creation of your own muse. I know there are no rules given on this subject in the book ( which is rather unfortunate) but its a little redundant to have a muse with all the same skills as an AGI techie. Even a little ridiculous considering the techie would have those skills a lot higher. I always thought of the muse as a companion that does for you what you can't do, not just does the same but much less effectively.

They aren't suppose to serve as co-characters, but rather secretaries. In our games, I (the GM) use the muse as a voicebox for warning characters about things that are going on elsewhere. Their muse might alert them that a stock they invested in is tanking, or that they have new messages from people. They only do minor things such as give advice based on their knowledge skills, search the net for characters that have no computer skills whatsoever, or command devices for mundane purposes (like starting up the coffeemaker once it detects that you are awake, or something). Think of a Muse as a very, very advanced Siri.

I never thought of it as another character or anything, but even the book states muses serve as companions. As you have stated it helps people with easy tasks if they have no skills of that kind. I just think with that huge moding community and market, there would be more diversity in such a product. If commercial muses are all the same, than I would rather have a Beta fork of someone I like, someone who can even be helpful to me as my muse. Or even ghostriding a full Alpha of myself as my own muse.

A companion does not equal another co-worker or something of that sort. It means a friend, traveling buddy, or something like that. Perhaps even a pet. One of my characters actually considers his muse to be his consort. Besides, the muse in the book is a stock muse, not the only type of muse people can have. Just buy a different AI and use that as your muse... or you can create a beta fork of yourself or a friend, and use that instead. You aren't restricted to just using the stock muse from the books... but purchasing a stock muse gives you that muse.

The standard Muse seems to sort of like getting a computer with a preinstalled Windows or other operation system, but obviously infinitely better. Probably not "preinstalled" but it is just a matter of course for life in EP from what I can tell. And, why would you need to settle for one OR the other? If the Muse is basically a no-cost inclusion at character creation, how could free get more free? At any point you could consider those other options, because they all have their mechanics and costs pretty well explained. You could see how you get by on the standard Muse and upgrade everything as you see fit. I think the key distinction between a Muse and even a "simple" infomorph (AI/synthetic in origin) is probably the fact that it really doesn't even want to control your body or make any decisions not based on explicit consent or else it's been consented to so often, the Muse considers it a service to pre-empt you in those situations, just because that is the most efficient thing to do to ensure its master's well-being and (maybe even a little) happiness. A pet is a very apt concept in the context, as Decivre says, the way I also understand it. Also, forks and ghost riders and other "official" autonomous artificial intelligence could have the option of controlling your body and totally stymie your free will, even by remote chance, whereas I don't believe Muses would. They are, maybe even in a greater sense than a fork, a part of your consciousness and your mind. It's just a teeny tiny voice in your head, but this time they won't accuse anyone of schizophrenia, considering it before jumping to such a conclusion. WAIT! Bonus question: could synthetic-born consciousness/intelligence have a Muse? I don't see why not, but is this considered some sort of slavery to them? Or just like the pet it really is. Perhaps AI's have Muse shows and pageants. In simulspace. There's a weird idea for ya. (Dog fights? Michael Vick might've been off the hook if this were our reality now.) Do Muses risk insanity along with their owners, should that happen? Could it really BE the voice of reason in the situation, perhaps? Keeps getting weirder...

Supposedly the key difference between a muse and most other narrow AI is that a muse has a more sophisticated personality matrix than other AIs do, and is designed to adapt to their owner's personality quirks. So long as you don't need those elements, you can pretty much use any AI as a muse. Down the line, we may even see new books have modifications for turning any other AI into a muse, or for enhancing your muse with new permanent skills (rather than purchasing skillware).

Of course. An AGI is far more complex than a muse, so I highly doubt they have any ethical qualms with owning a muse for themselves. At least no more than you have ethical qualms with owning a dog or other animal... you are after all an animal yourself. I work under the presumption that narrow AI have immunity to most forms of insanity, if only because they don't have emotions and feelings deep enough to scar them on a low level like people and AGI do. I treat them as being hardened against most forms of trauma (page 214-215) and never have to make Alienation or Continuity tests (because they simply don't wonder about things like whether they are the original them or not; they aren't programmed to think about that). However, they are still vulnerable to many other forms of stress... scorchers, exsurgent exposure and more can still mess them up good.

The category that you're looking at is the cost per 100 rounds category. Right beside it is the actual cost which is based on the number of rounds purchased. Also thanks for your input I'm just adding and checking things right now. As to the variable muse I have some work to do on that section, as I haven't added the AI programs in the most recent books or added the language skill that the 3rd printing of the core book added. However as I have every reason to believe that Rimward will include AIs in its gear chapter, as it covers the most AI and AIG friendly parts of the system, so I will be waiting to redesign that section.

Glad to help a tiny bit and I am sure you will busy as heck very shortly with the Rimward goodies, but I have noticed a couple more items on the v.94 sheet: Morphs On the Morph page, when you choose a morph which has implants, those implants are correctly labeled "morph" in yellow on the gear page, but do not appear in the 'Implants' area of the Printable sheet, nor does their information appear in the "Gear Details" of the Printable sheet. Equipment The Survival Belt from p.159 of Gatecrashing (Probably the best equipment deal in the EP catalog!) seems to be missing from the "Survival Gear" section of the Gear page.

On the morph front, you still have to go in and put a quantity of 1 on each of the items in yellow. From that point, everything is fine.

Aaahhhhh! Sorry. That's so obvious when you say it. And yet I saw that those were recolored and marked 'morph' on the gear page, and my immediate impression was always 'Cool, the spreadsheet is on top of it.'

Radar
When Pantopticon came out I had to change the name of the Radar to Radar System, because of the way that name finding is used to check to see what gear the morphs had. Had I left it as Radar then it would have caused an error when a morph with say "Radar Invisibility" by default would come up as a false positive. I have fixed this error for the Rimward.

Well it looks like this will take longer then # days to do. I blame the Olympics and some real life things for getting in the way. I've also decided that I need to fix the problem of morphs with different aptitude maximums in a meaningful way. And I spent far to much time making the hyperbright's addiction to comfurt possible. As an aside if anyone wants to post a list of all of the morphs that have special Aptitude maximums that would be super as far as helping me fact check. Also a list of morphs that are not in the standard size range. Because I'm thinking I need to update that into the sheet because of the to hit bonuses. I've also placed the Fenrir's CP cost at 200 CP, and made it unbuyable during character generation. But if someone wants to figure out the cost using the custom system that's been posted that would save me a lot of math. Thanks, Will

I agree, fantastic work. I can't imagine teaching this game without this sheet. I had one suggestion. Can you have a custom cell alternative for Free Language to make it able to handle new languages or other things? One can add them as secondary languages below but not as a native tongue and some people might want to add Scottish Gaelic or Tagalog or some other language not dealt with much in the books.

Thanks for the props, guys.
MephitJames wrote:

Yes in the new sheet you can instead of using the drop down to select a language you can now also type in whatever you want for the language. Currently on my to do list: Figure out a usable way to add the outer system morph variants without doubling the number of morphs in the sheet. The dropdown is getting long. Add the Stasis Module to the armor modds. do the descriptions. Figure out what the Internal Rocket and Headlights are referring too and add them in or cut them based on what I figure.

Could you perhaps do a dropdown-within-a-dropdown by source? I.E., first dropdown has book (EP Core Rulebook, Gatecrashing, Sunward, etc.) and then as you pull down to each of those it opens a dropdown to the side with the morph list for that book? Or is that beyond Excel's capabilities?
MephitJames MephitJames's picture
Excel Capabilities
It might be more within the program's limits to have several drop-down menus with IF/THEN gates. That is, first you choose biomorph, pod, or synthmorph, then you choose price range (High, Expensive, Expensive+, etc), and finally pick from a pretty short drop-down.
kindalas kindalas's picture
Dropdown within a dropdown
That's actually what I'm thinking of doing. What I have in my head is to select an identifier, like biomorph, uplift, pod, synthmorph, corebook, sunward, gatecrashing, rimward, pantopticon and all. Then select the morph from that list. Then select the variant (if one exists). My biggest concern right now is making sure that I can do it without having to change the sheets format from Excel 2003 (ie .xls) to Excel 2007+ (ie. .xlsx) But the figuring has come along. Also I just heard through Rob through Twitter that my guesstimate for the Fenrir's CP cost was good enough. Which means that GMs who want to push boundaries or make angry NPCs have that option.

New Sheet 0.95
Well the new sheet is up. 0.95 is ready to be downloaded HERE! Updates include error checking from the 0.94 sheet. New morphs/gear/implants from Rimward. New Reputation Networks: Gatecrashing Rep (X-Rep) from Gatecrashing Ultimate Rep (U-Rep) from Rimward New morph selection mechanic so now first the type is chosen from: Biomorph Synthmorph Pod Uplift Core Book Sunward Gatecrashing Pantopticon Rimward There is some overlap as I have arbitrarily added the "pod" uplifts to both the pod and uplift categories. and then the morph is chosen as usual. Also Cyberbrain variants are then decided upon. Currently I need a solid round of error checking to make sure I've covered my bases. And then I'll add in the gear and morph descriptions. I think that's everything. Oh and I've disabled the custom morphs, factions and backgrounds pending a resign. And I need to figure out the Titanian Muse upgrade package but I'm considering that custom muse request so it will wait for a bit. For now I recommend a post it note. But I'll figure it out. Enjoy the outer system everyone. Will

Errata / Question
Kindalas, Great work, as always! It's hard for me to put together an EP character these days without using your sheet. Question on armor enhancements for 'bots: The wording in the book is a bit vague, but it makes it seem as though the armor mods bring the synth's normal armor rating TO the listed value (while the intro paragraph for that section makes it seem as though the synth's normal armor is raised BY that amount, as you have it on the sheet). Do we know which one it should be?
kindalas kindalas's picture
Synthmorph armor
Back in the days of first printing synthmorphs when they wore the synthmorph specific armor would lose their innate armor bonuses, but when the wore regular people armor it would stack. When the 3rd printing came out it was changed so that the innate armor stacked no matter the armor type. Which is easier rules wise and made a Synth is heavy combat armor a lot less damage resistant then a Reaper in heavy combat armor. Which is how it should be.

Mnemonic augmentation problem
I dont want to sound dumb or what but I have tried making an Uplift born argonaut character with neohomonid morph and I have noticed that it has mnemonic augmentation and puppet sock highlighted with yellow as morph gear, I havent found mnem. aug. and puppet sock in the book as normal for neo hominid, I tried switching a couple of morphs but all had both mnem aug and puppet sock as morph gear. I would like know why is that, is it a problem or is it supposed be this way?
kindalas kindalas's picture
Solution
Did you by any change say yes to the question of cyber brain variant on the Morph Sheet in cell D14 or purchase a cyber brain in the gear sheet. Because both of those things will make mnemonic augmentation and puppet sock show up as free for the morph.

I've also been confused by the weapon accessories for a while. Why do some of them not show up? For instance, I can't seem to get smartlink to show up no matter what else is on the weapon, and safety only shows up on heavy rail pistol as far as I can see.

Guns
The 3rd printing errata made it so all guns get smarlink and safeties by default. The heavy rail pistol is an error on my part.

Amazing Job
Just wanted to say you've done an amazing job on these and I'm hoping that a v96 is coming soon with the custom morph/background fields. I noticed they were hidden fields and haven't worked though completely creating a custom morph yet, so they might work already. If you want any help, I'm familiar with excel, and would gladly help with tweaking formulas if there's any to tweak, and of course data entry when a new book comes out. Just wanted to throw that out there, since I know that updating a huge workbook like this can be time consuming.

Thanks
Right now I've rebuilt the skills calculations entirely since I was notified of a game breaking error. And the Armor system as I hated the old one. And now I'm working on rebuilding the gun system to match the new armor, and skill system. Then I'll put out a release. The sheet after that will involve a lot of cleaning and depending on the timing of the next EP release will include a fixed custom everything features, and the new books materials. What I am building up to is a more comprehensive character sheet so that when a character is created the printable pages include all of the morphs that have been bought. as opposed to the current system where each morph needs to be printed individually. Currently I only really need help assembling the data entry for gear/morph/stuff descriptions. However all that I think remains to be done is a couple of item and implant descriptions. Will

If you just need someone
If you just need someone playing 'typer monkey' plugging things into fields, I have the time to help you with that. However I am excel illiterate, having not used it since high school.

Typer Monkey
I will gladly play typer monkey as well. This is a great tool for the community, and I am more than happy to aid in its continued development in any way I can.

No custom morphs and backgrounds?
[EDIT] never mind I finally noticed the little blue line numbers on the right hand side of the page. Now if I can just remember how to unhide rows I'm betting I'll find all my custom goodness there. Just downloaded the .95 sheet. It's awesome but I'm missing the custom morphs and backgrounds is there a way to turn them on that I'm not seeing?

Mea Culpa: My mode of speech can make others feel uninvited to argue or participate. This is the EXACT opposite of what I intend when I post.

Offers of help
Right now I think I'm good for help. But I'm sure I will think of something at some point.
