Re: Eclipse Phase Software
I have the same problem Liked suggested, I installed run-time, then EPGMT When I started the app, I got the same "not aviable" error message, and the "stop all macros" button. So what's to do, now?

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
Hi Quincey Thanks for your feedback. And thanks for not giving up. General info for everyone: Many of the issues that the testers have had is with the idea of Trust. The software contains code - and Microsoft has tried to stop code from being run in Office documents/spreadsheets/etc. This is a vector of attack to a PC and is the very method used to deliver email Macro viruses. The whole point now is that you have to trust the location where EPGMT is installed - but unfortunately my installer package doesn't put it in a convenient place for you to find it. I've changed that in a new version of the installer, but I have not released any packages with the new method. Look for version 26 that I will put up today. I have put up two documents on the website that may help. Please read the one entitled "Trust Issues" that will explain what I think is happening, and the other "Instructions" that may help with getting it going. You will have to make a registry change (and the file to do that is up there), but once you have done that, then you may never have to do it again - unless the EPGMT install location has changed, which it will, so please be ready. Here's a point: I built the software and the installer package with everything pulled apart - if you buy commercial software, it does a whole bunch of things to your PC that you may never see. I didn't want any of that. Instead I gave everyone options - use MS Access if you've got it, if not use the run-time, make a registry change that you can inspect beforehand, choose a custom install location (the new packager puts it in Program Files, but you still have the Custom option to change that), make your own security decisions and actually see what is happening, and so on. So although there are some hurdles to overcome, please be sure that you are laying the foundation for every EPGMT users that will follow you. If anything is not clear, then let me know (ok, some of you have already). If anyone would like to write a "how to get things going" document, please feel free. If not - then I am working on it! Thanks again everyone! ~kenkthulhu

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
the run-time can stay there. EPGMT should be uninstalled and the new one installed. Let me know if you just want a single software file - you don't need to install the package then. Just copy the new Access file over the existing file. ~kenkthulhu

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
should I start a new forum post or are you guys happy to continue this thread? It starts with "it's the night before the con..." and that's kind of old now.

Was able to install and run successfully with Access 2010. I did notice in the registry hack that you're specifying a file path that may not exist for folks - on a D: drive ( which I don't have, for example). Should users specify the install directory? And I would keep this thread gking rather than a new one

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
Hi Octomorph Well I am glad it works. I know the reg path doesn't exist - it is a sample. Since then, I have repackaged the installer so that it should install to the Windows "Program Files" folder. There is an option in my packaging process to add the registry change - however > I < would have to set the location of the install to make the registry change work properly, and this would mean that the user would not have the option to change the install to a Custom location or the reg won't work. It's a bit tricky. What do you think I should do here? So have you used EPGMT? Do you have comments? Do you want enhancements? Are there bugs? If you want to know what enhancements I am intending, then you can head over to the website and check out the "Tasks and Actions" section for the upcoming enhancements. If they are Open, then I am working on them. When they are Closed, then they will be in the next version! version 26 is repackaged. and version 27 will have the enhancements. Keep trying it and let me know. If you want to help then maybe you can write a "how to install" pdf - or not. Thanks Octomorph - my favourite cephalopod. ~kenkthulhu

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
Haven't had a chance to do more than install at this point - should be able to test more in detail tomorrow night. I will uninstall and test the new installer as well. I think less flexibility with a reduced chance of end-user trouble would make more sense. With many end users, asking them to do registry patches s pushing the boundaries hard enough :) Looking forward to checking it out in detail!

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
Is there a way to join into the testing team at such a late stage? I'm operating out of a house with multiple test machines with different OS and security setups, and after my new campaign just kicked off yesterday I'm interested in adding some extra character management to my gear. As I'm currently off from my studies I do have lot of time on my hands, so extensive testing is perfectly possible.

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
well it is no longer character management - we're not in Kansas any more, Toto. I am working on the main feature now - this thing is huge. So huge I don't know what to call it yet. And I sent a PM about yr testing. ~kenkthulhu

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
Hi everyone. Please bear with me - I am so busy and this EPGMT thing is killing me. I am working on the main screen where all the action will take place for the characters and their enemies. And I am squashing a few design issues of earlier screens as I go. If you really want an update to the install package I am happy to do so. Let me know :) ~kenkthulhu

Any updates this program? Is it still in process?

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
Hi there, Antirrhesis It is still going - but I have been offline for a while. Tallia raised an interesting point: the ability to manage multiple games, with multiple players, with characters etc in each game, is it too much management in the software? Does it really need it? I guess most GMs will want to run one game, same game, same players, every week, week in, week out. So should I drop the game management bit? Or leave it to drop later as a lower priority? So I am going to release a v27 soon. Maybe tomorrow. I am working on the GUTS (you'll see), but still a way to go there. I have some basic elements in since last time, but nothing mind-blowing. Go to the website and take a look at the list of enhancements and tell me which you would like to see as priorities, or tell me other enhancements you'd like to see. ~k

re: the multi-game management... I don't know how complicated it would be do do, but I tend to run one main campaign and several one-off adventures since my main group can only meet once every couple months.

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
ok well it's not up to me. The functionality is there, and it's in there until the screaming hordes say otherwise. I'd prefer to keep going with other parts. Guys, I haven't been able to get back to this because of some other commitments. Once everything blows over, I should be able to get back to this after Tuesday. Sorry about that.

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
the Game management would mostly interest people who are in clubs or have several game tables (one in my group has his own circle in his neighborhood) personally I have a hard time using it (the software), it crashes every time I launch it.

Re: Eclipse Phase Software
Hi Quincey - I didn't know you were having problems. PM me if you like so we can resolve it. I don't really know what different people have done to get it going or what is happening with each experience. Is anyone else having problems? Please send them to me and I will try to address any issues. Thanks again, guys. ~ken
