Firewall Sentinels aren't expected to spend all their times on Firewall jobs - they usually have some sort of "day job" where they work most of the time. Ideally, such a job should give them both an excuse to gather all sorts of interesting and relevant information, and be flexible enough that they can excuse themselves on a short notice whenever Firewall calls. And to maintain plausibility, it's often a good idea if the jobs of the sentinels in a group are connected so that nobody raises an eyebrow if they spend a lot of time together.
We are about to start an Eclipse Phase campaign set primarily in the cities of Mars, and are trying to figure out just such day jobs for the group - so I am curious what other people have come up with for their games. What I am looking for in particular is something that would allow the PCs to pursue their own goals in addition to those of Firewall and provide for plenty of interesting role-playing...

[hr] No, a memeticist, a marketer, a sociologist and a hacker might like to call themselves social engineers, but they aren't. They make use of the tools built by social engineers, and they like to flatter themselves with the engineer title, but a professional social engineer is going to be different. They will specialize in social groups, social statics, and social dynamics, which will then have been extrapolated into 4th-order equations to predict feedback loops among simple social constructs. From these base engineering principles, programmatical structures can be built to facilitate or retard these social signals, or modulate them for a specified intent. This can include abusing a workforce to make them work harder, but it will primarily be a tool for empowering democracy. There are a number of social structures that are preferable in all ways for most of the participants, but the attentional cost of living in them is currently too high. Good social engineering programs and devices will help transparency, and will find ways to allow engagement with more of the politics that affect our interests without being a mental burden.@-rep +1
