WoTC Star Wars RPG Discontinued
Thought I'd pass this along from the wizards.com community.
Quote:
There have been several questions lately regarding the future of the Star Wars Miniatures and Roleplaying Game and until now I haven’t had definitive answers to give you. After a lengthy evaluation, Wizards of the Coast has decided not to renew the Star Wars license with Lucasfilm. We’ve had a long and fantastic run, but with the economic downturn, we have made the tough decision to discontinue our Star Wars lines.

I'm not shedding a tear for that RPG. WEG Star Wars (D6) was so much better.

Saga Edition didn't bug me nearly as much as the older d20 versions did, probably because it got my little guy into gaming.

Now they can release Star Wars 4E
That which doesn't kill you usually succeeds on the second attempt.

Re: WoTC Star Wars RPG Discontinued
No, they've pretty much stated the license is expiring with no renewal. In any case, wouldn't the new game be Star Wars: 5th Edition? ;)

Yea!!! Empire Strikes Back FTW!!! Now the game can go back to WEG and the OGL version of the D6 system where it rightfully belongs.

Sadly, West End Games is no longer in the fiscal position to acquire a license like that. It's pretty much a one man operation under Eric Gibson at this point. Everybody involved with the original company out of Honesdale PA has gone on to other things.

I didn't like the way the Rules worked for this verion anyway. good riddence. Actually, I had someproblems with eh WEG version. while the character creation rules were good, I didn't like how they handled vehicles. And teh force was a little unweildy. Well, if it's available maybe Catalyst should pick it up? ;)

Re: WoTC Star Wars RPG Discontinued
Make sure to copy everything you want off of their site before the license expires. If they act anything like they did after the Call of Cthulhu license expired, expect everything Star Wars-related to be deleted, which is a pity because they had some really cool stuff in their articles.

I would like to see how the Star Wars universe would be handled by the EP system. The most difficult thing is Jedis and how they can pull off their stunts. Most game systems just aren't good at presenting the Force.

You could do Force powers with the Psi system fairly easily.

Re: WoTC Star Wars RPG Discontinued
i dont know, i think saga edition captured the feel of the whole space opera setting wonderfully. they did a good job of representing the setting and the different tech levels, and there wasnt a thing wrong with the class system. it felt much more cinimatic than the WEG game did, though there wasnt anything wrong with WEG either. I'm no d20 fanboy, but i think those proto-4e rules were a really great fit for the setting. I'd rather continue playing it before going back to WEG -- of course you'd have to go back to the old WEG material for all the splat books and modules, but it should adapt easily enough. Honestly, they could never publish another starwars product again, and I'd be happy using what is already available.

I've always wanted to run Star Wars with Unisystem, but opportunity has never presented itself.
