What TV shows would you like to see converted to EP?
I've noticed both a Star Trek and a Futurama thread here already. For starters, here's a few of my suggestions: Andromeda: A hard (at least the first couple seasons) space opera that for once doesn't shy away from transhumanism. The AIs even act like actual software. Babylon 5: Honestly not seeing much that EP is uniquely suited for. Aside from the psychotic psychokinetics. Battlestar Galactica: Would skinjobs be biomorphs or pods with reproductive capacity? And don't forget their emergency farcasters. Farscape: Okay, this series is just plain weird, but the "hero" does spend most of the series with a ghostrider module hosting a fork of his nemesis stuck in his head. Stargate Franchise: Aka, "Gatecrashing the series". Regular X-Threats, occasional instances of uploading, too bad most attempts at augmenting the protagonists don't last or get them Put On A Bus.

Not sure about TV shows, but I would love to see a Blade Runner conversion. I would also like to see an EVE Online conversion of this.

Black Lagoon, about a pirate
Black Lagoon, about a pirate-mercenary shipping company operating out of Fresh Kills. Their members include Dutch, proclaimed Fall Veteran, Revy, a gun-toting Chinese-American Fury, the hacker/bot-herder Benny who sleeves their inter-orbital shuttle, and Rock, a Martian hypercorp drone who was declared dead and can't go back home to Mars because his backup was resleeved with all his legal benefits. The extended cast includes a Russian Fall Veteran mob-boss and her ex-army soldiers, the combat guard robot of a hyperelite family, a group of Lost children of unknown numbers who swap morphs frequently, the head of the Sun Yee On triad, the Martian heir to a hypercorp keitaru with criminal connections, the local mission of the Jovian-backed Catholic Church, Whuffie Jane the Rep counterfeiter, a neo-nationalist-Bolshevist group looking for a famous painting of Stalin lost in the Fall, and a hacker from Oversight.

Blade Runner would be easy. EVE would be a challenge though given how the Eclipse Phase system quite explicitly has no rules whatsoever for spaceship combat. That ground combat spin-off, DUST 514 I think, could be converted.

Looting media for fun and profit
@LatwPIAT, I like your brain. Black Lagoon is an excellent model for red markets and criminal groups. +1 @-rep for "Whuffie Jane" at the very least! :D Psycho Pass would be an excellent model for any crime investigation game in Consortium space. I put forward a personal favourite show, Threshold. An alien phenomena appears next to a trawler, strangely altering it and the crew, driving them to spread its signal to others... sound familiar? I'm surprised its not on the Eclipse Phase suggested media list yet, because its textbook Exurgent virus; The phenomena is even strangely fractal! :D The protagonists are a collection of pure theorists and planners, put together to try and study and stop whatever it is, because it is truly, unknowably, alien. See the contact scene (and whole series, yay!) for free here, from about 1:00 to 2:20. The Probe

You know, I was actually
You know, I was actually thinking of adapting the rules to the settings of various shows, not shoehorning the premises into the default Eclipse Phase setting. Like Andromeda where statistically Capt. Hunt is an Olympian with High-G Adaptation, Harper is a Flat with Mesh Inserts, Tyr is a Remade without the Uncanny Valley trait and claws, and Rommie is an AGI with one Fork in a Masked Synth and a few more Forks in the habitat cyberbrain of a kilometer-long warship. But it still takes place 3,000 years in the future following the collapse of an intergalactic empire.

I'd suggest the Jovian Republic as an ideal setting for this; forking is illegal and since biomorphs are almost taboo, having the military choose to transplant the brains of their elite agents into brainboxed synthmorphs allows GitS-style cybershells to be the common form of transhumanism. You'd have to play up the social frictions though.

Thank you. I was working off an idea of a friend of mine, who came up with why Rock couldn't go back to Mars.

Almost Human
Yes, the show is variable as hell in quality, but I stay for the tech porn. In a world at the cusp of a singularity, a cop in a flat struggles with his replacement cybernetic limb, while being partnered with a dangerously empathetic AGI in a sheathed synth. He has damaged memories of his accident, and wonders if his Olympian coworker might share the attraction he feels for her. His department has to deal with technology-embracing criminals, and have plenty of non-sentient AI drones in synths just to hold the line against them.

This is the best suggestion ever. Can't we sell this idea to an anime studio and hope for an update of the awesome series? Oh Revy, why have you abandoned me! Anyway, I am not sure if the question is; what TV show would I like to see converted into an RPG using the EP rules (to which the answer would be none), or which TV shows I would like to see in an EP setting (to which the answer would be; make a new one of course). If I had the contacts for it, I would've tried to make an EP-inspired TV show myself.

Extant
how does it translate to EP? Easy enough An Argonaut botanist (Halle Berry) got basilisk hacked and comes home to Mars where her AGI researcher husband and AGI son awaits for her...along with the greedy hypercorp that is interested in the potential X-Risk she unwittingly carries funny detail, the CEO of the hypercorp is played by the same guy who played the (redacted for spoiler) japanese genohacker in HELIX. So at the minute I saw him, I knew he was up to no good! the AGI kid also provides good hint on how to roleplay AGI characters, especially the real world naivete that 1) isn't completely stereotypical 2) can be really creepy (that scene with the birds in the garage? creeped me out!)

SPOILERS AHEAD, among the example tech listed. I just started watching this one (previosly: show's season was on course, no time to spare, etc..., the usual suspects for not wathing it as soon as it's released) and I must say it is quite endearing, not really for the different stories it presents (which can be good, bad or even gross... How to make the best sexbot? use abducted people to grow their own skin, to implant it in the bots. Like forking, but with dead bodies and other complications) but for the tech presented. Examples include stuff like really high yield directional explosives (plot device), Police comm jammers with huge area of effect (abused by some thieves: they start a hostage situation, the police jams, other crew steal nearby without worry from alarms), DNA Scramblers, "sky mask clouds" (any surveillance camera sees the guys' faces as a white shiny void), the limitations of preprogrammed AGI's inside of synth shells (with priority to logic, rules, and no sentience whatsoever), etc... Kinda gives a lot of ideas. Also, another media to watch would be Transmetropolitan (the comic-book/graphic novel), about an almost-singularity-level society, homage to Gonzo preiodism, and lots of details about sousvillance, and misery in a post-scarcity society where almost nobody gives a damn (specially tearing was the episode nearly issue #30 about child prostitution. Short version: the kids did that nearly always voluntarily... but the whole story is about how screwed up they are because there are no role models, and nobody gives a damn). While useful to depict depressed neighborhoods, like slums in the cities of Mars, its main theme would be how people just ignores everything that doesn't involve them directly, taking no action to better things. Or, poetically, Evil only needs Good to do nothing in order to win.
Zarpaulus Zarpaulus's picture
You know, Transmetropolitan
You know, Transmetropolitan could easily be pre-Fall Earth. That could explain why we don't know when exactly EP takes place, people stopped caring what year it was long before the Fall. Transmet avoids stating the year for a long time then eventually explained that nobody cares what year it is, they measure time based on how long it is since a notable event occurred in their short cultural memory. It shows a historical marker with a digital sign keeping track of how many years ago it was. And The Fall, that seems like one of the few events that the people of The City would care about.

Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan´s -The strain, could mod quite well into EP -just update it to future time & change its supernatural to the Titans instead.

A few shows come to mind:
A few shows come to mind: Dollhouse- although I couldn't get into it the premise looks like it would fit with psychosurgery and skillsofts or even resleeving as a more extreme interpretation. Strange Days- suffers the same issue I have with Dollhouse, a world altering technology is applied exclusively to the one plot relevant application (inversely, a reason I like EP's setting so much- everything is effected by advanced tech) but still an ok example of XP entertainment. Brainstorm is another good one for this. Bubblegum Crisis- would fit in VERY nicely with so much of the setting. No surprise really as Blade Runner was such an influence on it!

Cowboy Bebop. A team of ego hunters made up of a former Triad enforcer and hitman, an ex-Jovian police officer, a Fall evacuee with edited memories, and an odd AGI hacker sleeved in a neotenic morph travel through Mars and the Belt looking for bounties on a small freighter called the Bebop with their smart dog Ein.

Great idea, or greatest idea? Howsabout Breaking Bad... Whitey Walters, a meek Martian professor finds out he doesn't have the cash for his next GSP for his ruster, so he turns to The Pink Man, a former student-turned-Scum-drug-dealer to help him develop a new top of the line petal. Along the way they run afoul of criminals, hypercorps, and of course, the professor's brother in law, who just so happens to be an Oversight auditor. Other important characters include Gao Feng, the fabfood hypercorp bigwig who is secretly a ruthless drug runner; Landler, Whitey's well-meaning, buzz-killing muse; and Head-On-A-Tortoise, an exhuman who lives his life as a disembodied head riding around on the back of a tortoise. Who explodes.
MAN, noun. An animal so lost in rapturous contemplation of what he thinks he is as to overlook what he indubitably ought to be. (Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary)

Blade Runner would be interesting. As far as Eve, you could use it for the all the activities in stations and on planets, moons, etc. (that is kind of What DUST 514 and the Pilot Quarters in Eve is intended to represent, is the non-pod-goo based portion). But at the same time that is why I think doing a cross-over between EP (for the stats, skills, and technology related aspects) and SM (ICE's Spacemaster system for mechanics, especially the space flight and combat system with its very realistic simulation of real physics and damage) would be fantastic, as that would fit extremely well with such settings as Eve-Online where you can "plug yourself into" you ship and control it with your thoughts.

"I will translate your son for you, and you will translate the world for us. This is your second chance for you with Ralph" (oh and just FYI, this is the new show by JJ Abrams' sidekicks, Kurtzman and Orci) The reviews are pretty polarized, either the viewers hated it, or they loved it On Twitter, I gave the formula for the show: Watch Dogs + Perception = Scorpion give it a try, I think you'll fall for this show (hard!), or maybe hate it, but at least try it

Oh god, you've just found one of my weak spots. +1 @-rep to whoever bangs together stats for Sylia Stingray's hardsuits for me to dangle as lostech in front of players. :D (I'd do it myself, but I fear I'd be far too 'candy' about it - backpack fusion reactors, & c.) Edit: Firefly would be trivially easy to make work here. I know the gamebook doesn't like to go into uses of force involving capital ships, which makes it hard to build a scenario where the Battle of Serenity Valley could happen as stated. Perhaps they were fighting exsurgents on Mars in what later became part of the TQZ? Event Horizon - easy as ∏. Appleseed - WW3 is the titan war. Olympus is the first bastion of reclaimed Earth, and there are still small pockets of hot war that have been going on since the Fall, between survivors and Titan war machines. Batman Beyond - Hoooo boy. The episodes with supers could be people with variant Watts-MacLeod strains, or rogue soldier-boost nano gone feral. Splicers … uh, actually aren't splicers as we know it, but genehacked flats, and the episodes with cyborg bank robbers double-crossing their cyberdoc and being triple-crossed in turn is one of the most grippingly cyberpunk pieces of media I've ever seen; I'm amazed they got that past Warner Brothers' censors, what with implied torture-with-power-tools at the end. Odyssey 5, about a team of astronauts sent back in time by a roving space-AI, to defeat an obviously exsurgent threat that blew up the planet. Fortunately for them, they were in LEO at the time; a little (a few kilometers of) standoff distance turned "flashed to plasma in an instant" into "just barely survived". Had they not, uploading them into their five-years-prior bodies would have bordered on impossible. Spriggan - mad child soldiers with esper powers, badasses in power armor, and cyborg soldiers with canned-meat synth bodies go gatecrashing under mutual duress. How to Train Your Dragon - This lump of diamond cladding and solar cells floating in the asteroid belt is one of many nice places to live as an infomorph and forget about how the origin system is going to hell; when you're "in character", memories of life outside the simulation are suppressed by your muse, who joins you as your "pet" dragon. Warframe - getting away from TV shows, this free-to-play cooperative third-person shooter just finished an event called "Gate Crashing". I have started writing a Warframe game using EP rules. Thawed out turingknowswhen in the distant future, the Grineer empire has expanded from a ruined cave somewhere in Egypt or Anatolia at the end of the old war (fighting feral, sentient AI) to rule the solar system with an iron fist. The tenno are some kind of nanotech-meat-synth combination, driven by an unaccepting humanity to hide on the other side of Pandora gates in the "void", where space is filled with a seething, white-hot miasma of dark matter, and been corrupted not only by the void's influence, but also the "technocyte virus". Coming back, and dragging hyperspace dark-matter physics with them, they employ the weapons of ninjas, (post)modern soldiers, and wizards simultaneously to try to set right the solar system, destroying the corporate forces, vat-grown fascists, and technocyte-corrupted zombie hordes threatening the last vestiges of humanity surviving in the solar system. Stop me when you think this could be a fun setting. :3

April's Moon
This is probably my favorite Batman Beyond animated episode. I say animated, because there are some of the Batman Beyond 2.0 digital comics that go even beyond that! Not to mention the New 52's Future End deal with Brother Eye and the Earth 2 survivors (which could count as a bunch of Alpha Forks) "rescued" and tagged by Cadmus, which is very much like a blend of Direct Action and Cognite Anyway, back to Batman Beyond, you should take a look on Return of the Joker. It's more of an OAV, and therefore able to go above and beyond the limitations of the TV's S&P protocols. and the JLU Epilog episode, which shows an adult Terry McGinnis and even older Bruce Wayne. And deals not only with Ten of the previous incarnation of the Royal Straight Flush gang -whom is probably the best Futura illustration on TV- but also a good illustration on how reproduction could work in EP verse On Appleseed, if you get the chance, check out Appleseed Alpha and Appleseed XIII. the first is a prequel/reboot, and the second is a medium budget CGI animated show from Polygon (Tron Uprising, Knight of Sidonia) and Production IG focusing on the revenge of a manipulative Argonaut and the results of said revenge. I believe it might be on Netflix (at least the US catalog, haven't seen it on the Belgian, Dutch or French catalog yet) and to conclude, Funimation released earlier this year the bluray of the first season of Psycho Pass, while airing a re-edited version, before picking on season 2 this coming October. I got my copies from Best Buy, but also saw it available at San Diego's Fry's (not far from the Qualcomm Stadium off the Escondito Freeway) so i reckon you might find it at several other places as well
