What are the Basic Biomods?
What are the basic biomods in Eclipse Phase? For example, if I either wanted to convert them (for free) into Traveller, or if I wanted to play a Splicer-morph who decided to get upgraded?

Re: What are the Basic Biomods?
I don't understand the question, so I prepared a couple answers. :) The Basic Biomods are a [Moderate] cost bioware augmentation. The Basic Biomods are "a series of genetic tweaks, tailored virii, and bacteria that speed healing, greatly increase disease resistance, and impede aging."

Re: What are the Basic Biomods?
Basic Biomods are the standard in most biomorphs, from Splicers onwards. The general points are: - You are no longer effected by Modern Day (or any other ubiquitous) diseases. - Ageing is minimised. The longevity is up to you however in Traveller basically treat it as the passing of time becomes irrelevant. The morph is, gameplay-wise, immune to ageing. - Healing is increased. Simple, double or even triple the base human healing rate. You're looking at 1000 to 5000 Eclipse Phase credits in the old economy.

Re: What are the Basic Biomods?
the best description you are going to get is on pg. 300 of the core book.

I mean, what are the individual biomods? E.G. What is the one that impedes aging?

Re: What are the Basic Biomods?
Basic Biomods are a grouping of enhancements (including a high resistance to aging) that are not sold separately. They are all detailed on page 300 under the heading of "Basic Biomods".

They don't go into that much detail. Why do you need to know anyway?

I already told you: "a series of genetic tweaks, tailored virii, and bacteria". :)

Re: What are the Basic Biomods?
Oh that's real helpful. Could someone name each tweak, and tell me what it does?

Because I might want to port it into Traveller. And it would be helpful to know so I can design my own type of splicer-morph.

Not really, as there is not list. And we do not understand what the mods are doing well enough to explain them. Though each individual enhancement probably uses a little bit of all the mod types listed.

Re: What are the Basic Biomods?
I'm not familiar with Traveller… does it not allow game effects that aren't named and explained? :) We could make some up for you. Genes usually have fun names like FOX-89, and bacteria are like Youngimakius heapfastii, and then your virii have families (Immunity virus, of the New England Retroviridae). Kidding aside, I'm sorry the book doesn't have more details. We can't give you more than the book has.

Re: What are the Basic Biomods?
I guess the basic effect is "merely" to make people transhuman by our standards: Contraception and protection from STDs (p. 45) Protection from ill effects of microgravity (p. 199) Double healing rate (p. 208) Regenerates lost body parts (p. 300) Immune to all normal diseases (cancer to flu) (p. 300) Largely immune to ageing (p. 300) Just needs 3-4 hours of sleep (p. 300) Does not naturally suffer from biological problems like depression, shock reactions after being injured, or allergies (p. 300) Probably includes fixing quirks like wisdom teeth and the appendix too. Doesn't seem to increase any aptitudes directly, improve looks or cure any genetic diseases: that is what being a splicer (or better) is for.

I wrote up the basic biomods in the core book, and this looks like a complete list to me.

Re: What are the Basic Biomods?
I imagine it also includes more synergistic bacteria throughout the body so as to reduce flatulence, cavities, infections and pimples, a tweak to eliminate motion sickness, quicker light/dark transition, superior dark operation, dynamic circadian rhythms, stronger lungs for operation under higher load or without convection moving CO2, stronger neck to reduce whiplash, more elastic bones, bullet proof stomach, superior balance. Plus it fixes failures such as genetic defects or insufficiencies. In a nutshell, imagine your body is as awesome as it was when you were six (i.e., indestructable), your sexual endurance is like when you were 15, and your stamina is like when you were 28, all while being fully compatible with the wisdom and boring personality you acquire when you're 45.
