Hrmm. Another thought came to me. Earth is toasted, and humans (irregardless of wether they are human or not) are effectively immortal... what sort of calender are people going by? Is it the same good ol' Earth-based one or is there a new formula?

We decided that people were likely to stick with the standard Earth calendar as a universal standard out of nostalgia and convenience. Given that everyone has AI helpers, however, it's certainly possible that people go by multiple calendars: Earth, local, whatever.

I should also mention that the Mars chapter of Sunward talks about the calendar system they use on Mars, which is a modified form of the Earth calendar.
