Thrust Vector for Microgravity Only in stock morphs
Hello, A few synthetic morphs in the core books have Thrust Vector flight systems on their statistics, but their description talks about them only working in micro-gravity, which is very counter to the description of Thrust Vector in the gear section of the core book. Specifically I'm looking at the Arachnoids (core p144) and Takko (panopticon p144) which both have "Thrust Vector (8/40)" but the descriptions say they let them move in Zero-G and Microgravity respectively through gas jet systems. Thrust Vector in the robotic enhancement section page 310 of the core rule book says:
Quote:
Thrust Vector: These shells use either turbofans or turbojets to create atmospheric lift with a set of wings. The engines may be maneuvered to point and generate thrust in different directions for vertical takeoffs/landings and better maneuverability in zero-G. (Moderate)
That implies flight, wings, props & fans. So am I right that off the shelf Arachnoids and Takko morphs don't fly in mars or earth gravity, but could "fly" in micro-gravity including Vacuum? Essentially I'm asking if the inline morph descriptive text overrides the description given in Thrust Vector considering they seem to lack the wings and fans described there.

AFAIK, none of the mobility systems make any sense. :) I posted a thread more or less about this a little while ago, so give it a search ('vectored thrust', probably).

Yes. Thrust vectoring has nothing to do with wings. It's just the ability to direct thrust in a specific direction. "Winged" is it's own mobility system.
Quote:
Winged: Primarily used by smaller shells, this system of four independently-controlled wings allows the shell to hover or move rapidly in any direction. [Low]
The mobility systems could use an overhaul in the next edition.

Sure enough. Let's see: we need to know something about move rate, size (of the morph, of the mod), noise/heat/etc., possibly fuel, does it work in high/low grav, atmo/vacuum, …
