Synthmorphs have armor from their frame and can add an armor ware (hardware option only) but have issues with wearing the kinds of armor that biomorphs typically wear.
"The armor inherent to a synthmorph’s or other shell’s frame counts as the first item towards layering. Shells are not designed to wear armor; any armor layered upon them may need to be specially designed to ft their form (perhaps requiring a nanofab Program Test or increasing the Complexity by one step)"--page 214.
Does this have any special interactions with synthetic mask?
Can a steel morph with synthetic mask wear an armor vest and a second skin bodysuit without any special design since the morph is supposed to mimic the human form?
Can hardware armor ware be applied under synthetic mask without being noticeable?
Can hardware equivalents to bioware armor ware (e.g., bioweave) be applied to the second skin?

Synthmorph's armour stacking
Synthmorph's armour stacking isn't because of their form (almost all Synthmorphs are already human shaped enough to wear clothes) but because of the weight and bulk their design isn't intended to have strapped on. So you'd still take layering penalties.

Maybe you could mod the
Maybe you could mod the synthmorph to remove its innate armor?

So what's the opinion on whether it is possible to have hardware armor ware hidden under synthetic mask? Can a steel morph put light combat armor under its pseudo-flesh without being obvious? I don't mention heavy combat armor because it is specifically noted as "bulky and noticeable" in its description.

hidden armor
I think the best answer is that it's surely possible, but customized armor of that sort might have a higher complexity and cost than a more conventional off-the-shelf design that is more obvious. It might also be restricted in some habitats (even ones that are generally tolerant of synthmorphs). So getting clandestine armor in a hurry, our without being subject to closer scrutiny might be tough.
