So I have a player that wants to come up from the mean streets of Olympus Mons and was curious as to if they could start with a one of those rare "Martian Alpiners" mentioned (but not started)... I see no problem but was curious as to any thoughts from the game designers/everyone else as to what such a morph would be like. What I'm thinking was that they were intermediates between the days of mucking around in pressure suits and the current Ruster which appears to be pretty much human barring the environental and respiration modifications... both of which would certainly be issues from earlier times. I notice that (at least in the intro adventure) there's a red coloration to the skin, unless that's a deliberate "Redneck" cultural thing I'm guessing it's for UV tolerance issues.
So what seems to be the easiest thing to do is start with a ruster morph and simply add something like uncanny valley, reflecting that in the form of some of the proposed human/mars adaptations I've seen in some stories, large polarized eyes or a sonar adaptation for low light conditions, big ears for better hearing in low pressure athmosphere, leathery/oily skin. In essence a Ruster but with those few additional or rare features that make the morph different but not exceptionally so (this is supposed to be a morph from a place that is falling by the wayside after all). Thoughts?

Re: Starting the Martian Alpiner
Actually that's not a bad idea... that would work well given the earlier reliance on spacecraft and "tin can" habitats, good one...

Re: Starting the Martian Alpiner
Whilst not mentioned in the trait listings as such, something that the Ruster and Alpiner Morphs might share would be a much more efficient use of water. Some kind of built-in recycle perhaps (camel anatomy, so I understand, reroutes waste back through the liver to extract water). Or maybe a means of storing extra water internally. Or both. Or something else.
Most Morphs are probably tweaked to be water-efficient, just to conserve resources and reduce life-support burdens on the habs. But, given the sheer driness of Martian conditions, Rusters and Alpiners may well have this boosted as far as possible just for simple survival.

Re: Starting the Martian Alpiner
I'd go for something between the ruster and the sports morph (don't remember the name now). Probably with some form of internal air deposit.
