I can't answer your question directly, because I didn't put that in there, but consider: EP is set in a future version of our world. Literature being produced now -- if it survives -- is old enough to have gained a solid reputation and been studied in schools. So if you see people or things that appear to be named after, say, twentieth century sci-fi literature, this might say as much about the character who chose that name as the tastes of the author who wrote them up.
