Public Access and the Martian Gate?
I'm a bit confused. So, I read in Gatecrashing that Gatekeeper is very rigid. Strict schedules, etc. Cost to rent access to the gate is astronomical. But, I'm confused about tourism/civilian travel through the gate, and what would be Gatekeeper's outlook on that. There are numerous extrasolar worlds that Gatecrashing notes are popular for tourism (Sky Ark, etc.). And Portal seems like it would have a healthy amount of traffic coming and going. "Regular" people might want to come and go through the gates. So, does Gatekeeper (I'm specifically interested in The Martian Gate, I know other gates would be much different) have like "public transportation" rates where they'll open up the gate to Sky Ark or Portal and let a bus full of tourists go through? Or does anybody who wants to go through have to rent time on the gate (or find a sponsor, or use social rep, etc. etc.)?

Yeah, anybody can use it if
Yeah, anybody can use it if they pay and can pass basic security checks. However, if it is a high-volume gate connection, where they line up railroad tracks and jam through gate sized rail cars as fast as they can, your cost of travel can be significantly reduced. They just put your morph into a coma, package it in a box, and ship it with the other freight. If the 100,000 opening fee and 50,000 per minute can be amortized over the fact that they can move 10 tonnes per second, then it could be really quite cheap. Then again if its just you and your 5 buddies walking through in a few seconds, splitting that 150,000 fee 6 ways is 25k each. Ouch. Edit: most regular people would go through shipping and chartering companies to buy their tickets - the companies would buy and arrange gate time from Gatekeeper

It could also be that those
It could also be that those rates are the ones given to private citizens, rather than corporate members of the PC (and their associates). Given that one of the Pathfinder corporations primary directives is to provide hypercorps avenues for profit, tourism could easily fit into that. The provision of subsidies and incentives to tourist corporations could reduce the massive costs to manageable levels. It may also be that the costs provided are those to fit into the extremely hectic schedule of the Pathfinder corporation. While it may cost 150k to schedule gate time in the immediate future, there may be reductions in those costs if you are not picky about when you go through ('I want gate time in the next year, what deal can you do for me?')
