Pre fall Space travel
Here is something I have been pondering. As Uploading has been around no longer than 30 years and fascasters likely far less. Does anyone think it likely that some long range ships would have had cryo sleep chambers? The technology , while not covered IIRC should have been well within the range of what was possible. Some ships may have been drones, but many times you will want a crew in case something goes wrong I would think. As such it seems to me that long range cargo ships would have a crew and would need a more cost effective way to support them before Nano assemblers and farcasting. Anyone else think this likely?

I think so...
I seem to remember something about extra-solar colonization slowships that departed prior to the fall, still out there somewhere but with the information about how to communicate them lost during the fall. They could be generation ships, or have crews in cryo / suspended animation. Maybe they witnessed the Fall from afar, maybe they are not aware it occured, maybe they were on the receiving end of TITAN viruses that were radio'd out to them. Could be interesting if one arrived at a nearby exoplanet on the other end of a pandora gate. Maybe strange things about relativistic physics would be discovered if you compared notes between gate travelers and slow travelers. Maybe one of them was contacted by Factors along the way, and struck up some sort of trade relationship. Or maybe I'm thinking of a different game with a similar setting. Certainly some potential to explore the idea, though.

I was mostly thinking of in system travel. I mean it still takes months if not years to reach some points within our own solar system. So if you go back 40 years or so you will have even slower ships that may have needed crew but not needed them awake 24/7

For "frequent fliers" the hibernoid morph in the MRB would be common. Otherwise, the cryosleep tech is mostly used now to store morphs while their owner egocasts elsewhere. The stasis module armor mod (p.191 Rimward) or the hibernation pod (p.193,Rimward) should cover in-game capabilities.

sure, same applies to in-system
The fluff certainly mentions far flung colonies in the Kuiper belt and Oort cloud. Those would have almost certainly launched pre-fall. Same considerations should apply to them. There may even be some slow-boats heading to Neptune or Pluto, on a circuitous but fuel-efficient course. Naturally creating some sort of plot-relevant surprise when they show up. I'd suggest that they might even be undetected until they are very close.. but then the no-stealth-in-space folks would show up to point out how luminous the IR signature of even a very small power source would be, and how fast a modern telescope can scan the whole sky. Play it as you will.

Thanks, I had totally forgot those!

Pretty sure there are a few references to these, between Rimward and Continuity. This is actually a great role for whale egos, which are well-suited for long cruises alone. But hibernation is certainly very doable.

Do you (or does anyone) have any idea where references to these pre-Fall sleeper ships might be in the books?

I agree modern ships Whales would be great. I was looking at pre upload ships, so about 30 to 40 years pre fall. I'll look though those two books and see what I can dig up.
