Playing an Infomorph
Hi there. New to Eclipse Phase and thinking of running Acrimony for some friends, but I wanted to get a clear idea of the way an infomorph character works, since there's one in the pregen party - Njal. 1. When Njal hangs out with the party, does his avatar appear in the space with them as an AR graphic, or is he just an invisible presence? 2. If Njal wants to talk to a stranger on the street, does he have to appear in front of them as an AR graphic to get their attention, or does he just talk to them as a disembodied voice? Does he have to ask permission from that stranger's muse in order to communicate? if he does, does the muse automatically approve him, or does the stranger have to consciously approve him? 3. The impression I got was that spimes are everywhere. Can Njal use them to view any given room from any vantage point? If he wants to see inside a secret facility, are those spimes somehow protected by the facility's network? also, an unrelated question. The character Svafa from Acrimony is listed as having a "T-Ray Emitter Bot" but I couldn't see that specific robot type on the wiki's robot list.

Optional. He could have no presence at all, he could choose to show up on AR, he can even choose to show up in a hologram. Or maybe teleoperate a bot.

I'm not sure about this. Muses are usually quite good at filtering the regular AR spam. I think an infomorph can get in contact with someone unless the person is deliberately trying to ignore them. I'll go look this up.

I under the impression that anyone can view any system that is made public. Private facilities wouldn't be public. Most habs are Panopticons, where everyone can monitor anyone. No side really won the wars to be the sole people in control of all the cameras and the like.

I'm having trouble finding information on what infomorphs can do. So I'm OK if you decide to handwave the situation and allow infomorphs to yell at people through nearby speakers.

An Infomorph is like a
An Infomorph is like a program with sentience. As such, he can choose (or negotiate) how will he show up to others: text lines, audio files, translucient avatar... If he wants to he can show up like a T-Rex on the AR. How would you start contact with someone in an MMO? Same here, first he would ping the stranger with a "hello, I wanna chat" kinda handshake, the receiver's Muse will make sure it's not spam, and after that... The problem with surveillance in Eclipse Phase is not scarcity, like nowadays, but overabundance. It's like looking on the Internet for a good cam livefeed you can use, but most of the time there are too many, badly tagged (for your needs) cam feeds. Official, important ones will be tagged, but they will also be known by those doing stuff there... I would seriously either handwave it with a few rolls, or read the Panopticon EP book. As for the T-Ray emitter bot, assume it's the cheapest flying bot with a T-Ray "lantern" attached. Its purpose is to go and flank whatever you wanna see, and emit T-Ray's more or less opposite to were you are in relation with what you wanna see.
