Open source microfacture kit on Kickstarter.
Please note that I am not soliciting donations for this project, but linking to an article about the Kickstarter campaign. The Artisan's Asylum has designed an open source microfactory - it is a 3d printer, automill, and etcher. They have initiated a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to begin building and selling them. The unit is completely self contained: A controlling computer is built in and can associate with a wired or wireless LAN for remote control, and the software to drive and interact with it is already installed. Obligatory Eclipse Phase tie-in: First generation fabber? Perhaps the first generation of nomadic makers to reach Mars brought the greyprints in their mesh inserts and cobbled them together out of junk, spare parts, and reclaimed hardware in their spare time.
