Neal Stephenson does the Fall
Seveneves hasn't gotten great reviews, and I think that's too bad, especially if you're an EP fan thinking about not reading it. People who found it a snore just don't like hard SF. Want to get a feel for some of the hard SF problems transhumanity would have to overcome to survive the Fall? Holy cats, this book. Stephenson has done a ton of research on things like orbital mechanics and the effects of space on the human body, and it shows. He also does a good job with depicting day to day life in microgravity, as well as the "engineering vs. nature" struggle inherent to subsisting in space. Yeah, I concede some of the critics' points r/e its artistic worth relative to other Stephenson nvoels. But I'm too much of a space nerd to have found it anything but arresting.

Really good book.
Neal Stephenson has done his homework, and it really shows, the entire horror of the events, the fragility of habitable craft and the lack of spares, of food, and oxygen are all bought home as the book progresses, it's simply brilliant. Not action packed, but rather the desperate survivors clinging on, do what needs doing.

Goin' on the list. I'm reading KSR's 2312 up next on my fiction docket, so following that up with Seveneves should be a nice one-two punch of EP GM fuel.

didn't even know he made a new book, thank you for the information! I am a fan of Snow Crash, didn't really get into Crytonomicon or Diamond Age. Been looking for a new "hard" space novel & this one might be it.
