New Gate Found On Luna--Possible Consequences
In my campaign session last night, I took my first plunge into really shifting from the canon of the core books and had the discovery of a Pandora Gate on Luna. My PCs, who are active on the exoplanet Portal, saw and heard about this from a distance, but, of course, it was of significant interest to them, being gatecrashers. I put the Gate at the bottom of the Lunar Deep Delve. What happened was that the tunnelers broke through into the chamber, with the full press corp behind them, and people were looking around, and someone spotting the Gate and then identified it. As a result, all hell broke loose. After the dust settled, both literally and figuratively, the LLA government stepped in, assumed control, and the Fullerene Lady has set aside resources to create what amounts to an LLA-owned microcorp with the specific focus of controlling, protecting, and exploiting the Gate, as well as protecting Luna from anything that comes out of the Gate. This is, of course, aided by the fact that it is at the bottom of a 50 km hole in the ground. Political responses on Luna are mixed, but tend towards the more resentful and afraid end of the scale. The other Lunar cities are resentful of Shackle's sudden increased importance, as there is no way it will not become a port city for the Gate and all of the economic benefits that will result. Socially, there are two camps among the Lunar populace; the "It's a TITAN Artifact! Rip it out of the ground and shoot it into deep space!" group and the "It's an economic miracle! Squeeze it for every credit and get the juicer out to make sure we didn't miss a drop!" group, with varying sub-groups along varying points on the sliding scale, as well as the usual variations on the theme--the paranoid biochauvinists who want to ship off all of the clanking masses through the Gate and then rip it out of the ground and send it off into a black hole somewhere. Additionally, the people who actually crowdfunded the Delve are feeling a bit cheated. They spend a not-inconsiderable amount of credits on funding the whole thing, and they have no control, no say, and no payoff for the discovery that they made possible. As for the mysterious hypercorp that did the actual digging, Zbrny Group simply asked for 10% of the Gate profits, declining by 1% every ten years for a century. The Fullerene Lady said that they'd take the request "under consideration". Also, the whole thing is driving the lunar geologists nuts, given how much undisturbed rock the damn thing was under. So, that's where things stand for the moment; it's been five days in-game since the discovery, and they haven't even installed a Gate control device on it yet. I've got some plans regarding outcomes, including the thought that it probably just got much easier to do black market stuff in the Gate Network, once they dial up a known location, and finding colonists willing to homestead on exoplanets likewise just got alot easier. So, any other possible consequences and ideas resulting from this? Looking for a different perspective on things that might happen.

Paranoid lunatics decide that
Paranoid lunatics decide that this shit cannot stand and get ahold of a bottle of antimatter about the size of a satchel charge. On its own, it's not a whole lot - enough to put a goodly new crater in the moon or breach a dome, but not remotely enough to blow up a hab. But it's probably enough to make that gate go Boom. And if a gate practically in the core of the Moon goes Boom nearby to Shackle, well... It would probably crack that mother like an ostrich egg under the sledgehammer of wrath. At the very least, it would blow out a sizable chunk of the Moon that would make it look like the Lunars (Loonies?) decided to ape Locus's form factor. Of course, even most paranoid lunatics aren't prepared to annihilate their own homes in order to protect it. This is obviously fishier than the seven brothers of a lottery commissioner winning the drawing on seven consecutive weeks. Have they been Psychosurgically altered to make this seem like a good idea? Is this a front for an Autonomist attack on the LLA? Is this a false flag operation by someone else to blow up the LLA (literally,) and perhaps drag its remains into their own fold whilst blame befalls a convenient scapegoat? Or are these really just homegrown maniacs who've gotten ahold of an antimatter demolition charge and haven't crunched the numbers required to realize that making a gate go Boom on the inside of the moon is a terrible idea? And if so, what psychopath gave these loonie Loonies a goddamned antimatter demolitions charge? Alternatively, this gate leads somewhere that the Factors would really rather Humans not see.
