New convert looking for online EP - US Eastern/GMT -5 time zone
Hi. I've been playing and running RPGs for a while now (longer than I care to dwell upon,) and someone pointed out to me that since one of the reasons I liked Shadowrun 4th Edition was its beginnings-of-transhumanism, shaking-off-the-cyberpunk-dystopia overtures, I might like Eclipse Phase. Well, I acquired the corebook and mainlined it, and then doubled-down with Rimward, I have to say, they were right. So, I'm interested in getting into an EP game. I'd rather not try running yet, as I haven't really got as much of a grasp on the setting as I'd feel comfortable to give it a whack at doing it justice, compounded with never having played in a D100 game system yet. As far as a game goes, I'm an online-only gamer, and would very much prefer some sort of real-time text chat-based game (IRC, Roll20, etcetera; though I've never been able to get MapTools to work,) to some kind of PbP, which is a format I do not enjoy over-much, though I'd try it if I really liked the concept. I really, really can't do voice, because I'm painfully shy about voice communications with folk I don't know very, very well. As regards the sort of games I'm interested in... Well, nothing casting the Jovian Junta in any kind of positive light whatsoever. I like them as Space North Korea, because sometimes states form that really are that bad, and nothing which is being run in a grimdark, super-gritty style where the players are constantly being beaten over the head with "Consequences" and "Realism" and stuff. I just got out of a Shadowrun PbP game where I was constantly locking horns with the GM over that. Other than that, I'm kind of flexible, though I'd prefer something lighter than grimdark hopelessness. I'm reasonably flexible about game type and style, though I'd like something where the players are free to be from disparate locations. I am, sad to say, free to play pretty much any time that isn't Sundays (as that's when I run a Star Wars game,) unless it were to start late on Sundays, my time. (I start my games at 10:30 AM my time, so as to accommodate players in Germany. My games are usually over by 5 PM.) Other than that, day and time, I'm extremely flexible. As for what I'm hoping to get out of a game of Eclipse Phase... I was drawn in by the possibilities of the stories and settings that can be told, and am hoping for a game with a lot of characterization and exploration of transhuman possibilities and themes. I'm not averse (at all) to a game with a primary hook of being Firewall affiliates, but if that's what goes on, I'd like it to have a heavy dose of balancing home-life stuff; characters making their way in a solar system gone completely crazy and trying to balance the secret stuff they must do with keeping up their home life and such. I've got some ideas for characters, but they're at present mostly vapors in my head, I'd want to see a GM's pitch before I settled on one. I will say I have a strong preference for a character from out towards the Rim - Titan or the Trojans at the very least, and preferably farther out into full-on anarcho-collectivist habs. If anyone's running a text-chat based game and needs more players, or is thinking of running one - or if, you know, you're just in more or less the same situation as me - please, by all means, drop a line.

Hey there, Shadow! I'm glad
Hey there, Shadow! I'm glad to see a recent post by you, I've been trying to get ahold of one or two EP players. Anyway, I've just discovered the game as well, and I wouldn't mind running it if we can find at least three players. Ideally, we'd have me and you and two others. Your post was length and fun, so I picked out some points to respond to; I'll try to keep it short, I prefer to chat over Skype :3 " I really, really can't do voice, because I'm painfully shy about voice communications with folk I don't know very, very well." Would you be fine with one or two players running voice? Not required, and depending on the group composition I may actually GM via heavy text! :P "and nothing which is being run in a grimdark, super-gritty style where the players are constantly being beaten over the head with "Consequences" and "Realism" and stuff. I just got out of a Shadowrun PbP game where I was constantly locking horns with the GM over that. " So you just want to feel that your actions do make bad situations better? I get what you mean, basically, you want to see a little hope now and then. "I'm extremely flexible." I am too! "I was drawn in by the possibilities of the stories and settings that can be told, and am hoping for a game with a lot of characterization and exploration of transhuman possibilities and themes. " Same here, mate! Ideally, I'd want to focus heavily on each and every one of your characters, their interpersonal struggles, and I agree with focusing on their "home" lives as well. I hope to hear from you soon! (Skype: dogbreath91)

Yo
I'm also GMT-5, and I'd be down to throw in with an EP game. I rarely get to actually play much since I usually GM for my IRL group. Feel free to ping me if you need another warm body.

Warm, cold, clanking,
Warm, cold, clanking, whatever - the more, the merrier. I'm in kind of the same boat, as I'm running an epic Star Wars game over Roll20 that I'd really desperately rather be playing in, but c'est la vie. :) You can drop me and/or Darn_the_Vargr a line on Skype. He put his Skype SN in the post above yours, my Skype SN is the literal exact same as my screen name: ShadowDragon8685 You can also drop me a line on AIM, too, if you should prefer it. Same SN.

You will be upgraded!
Haha, jk'g. Glad we pulled another gamer into our shuttle. And yes, feel free to add me on Skype! Just mention that you're lilith from the EP forum and I'll remember ya. Also, I'd like to get everyone's preferences on how they'd like to play over the 'net. While Skype's awesome, I accept that other people might have their own favorite platforms. This'll also give me time to catch my other contact up. If Lilith joins we'll have a starting group, methinks! Allons-y!

I'd prefer IRC, honestly.
I'd prefer IRC, honestly. Skype chat is fine, but I'm too painfully shy to do voice, including just listening to others do voice... And I'd rather have a text record of everything, anyway.
