While re-reading the nanofabrication rules, the following question popped in my mind...
If you could use a nanofab to build "organic" things, can you build a biomorph out of one?
If so... why the long creation times in biomorph creation?, is it absolutely obligatory to "grow" them during the 6 moths-1.5 years period?

Re: Nanofabricators and biomorphs
Yes and no.
A nanofabricator can very well assemble any object so long as it has the necessary resources. However, the objects it creates are inert... if you fabricated a supercomputer, the supercomputer isn't active while it's being assembled or after it's finished. It still has to be powered and turned on. In that same vein, a fabricated biomorph won't be active (alive) as it's being assembled, so the end-result would be... a corpse.
Until someone comes up with a way to reanimate dead tissue in the world of Eclipse Phase (NANOFAB ZOMBIES!!!), this would be a pointless endeavor.

Re: Nanofabricators and biomorphs
I had assumed they have figured out how to fabricate living objects.
page 69 (Private Habitats..... "By using these nanofabricators and the smart materials to their fullest, residents can completely change the interior of the habitat in only a day or two—transforming a sterile and crystalline array of shining metal and glass buildings into a thriving forest, inhabited by a variety of wild animals. )

Re: Nanofabricators and biomorphs
those animals and plants could be imitations, using robotics and similar.

What about makers? They create organic food, don't they?

Yes, but food generally isn't alive when you eat it. And on those few occasions where some part of it is, it's usually a bacterial culture. Putting together a few cells of bacteria for your fabbed carton of yogurt is nowhere near as complicated as trying to build and animate a multi-cellular creature.

From my understanding, that is called a pod.

Re: Nanofabricators and biomorphs
Pods are living tissue (except for the brain) but the pieces are grown seperately, like the replicants from Bladerunner.
