When I first heard of the concept of the muse (not named muse, though) is actually in a manga of technological thriller genre, called Akihabara @Deep, where a bunch of young adult create a small company set in the technological heart of Tokyo to create a new generation of conversational agent. Near completion, their project is stolen by a ruthless Corporate owner, and one of their member dead of an aneurism. But they didn't give up, and ended up creating a whole new level of search engine crossed with digital assistant and expose the bad guy (curtesy of the search engine, actually)
A few months later, I came in contact with EP and its muse, more or less forgetting about Akiba @D until now, when I saw this video linked on Dr Michio Kaku's facebook wall:

It maybe not muse, not yet, but it's much nearer to the software described in @Deep
What I look forward, myself, is the XPs and full sensory RV like Holoband, but those protomuse is really interresting too
