Muse, Ego and ownership
In the scenario I'm running this weekend the beta forks (i.e. players) are sleeved with fake Ego Ids in a black clinic. They have the potential to find their alpha's muse, but how would the muse know they are its owner? Would it be possible to convince it or do they operate only on ego Id? To make it worse they have most memories edited out and are really not entirely themselves... How would the muse react? I.e. how much autonomy does a muse have? Just refuse to run? Agree to answer non-incriminating questions that might help its owner? I can come up with my own ideas, but love to hear how others would handle this.

It depends on the character
It depends on the character in question. Some might restrict their muse wholly to only their own EgoID, some might restrict only to alpha forks of themselves, some might restrict to alphas and betas. Something occurs to me: people might set it up so the muse will answer any non-incriminating question posed to it by anyone, some might be set up to only answer others' questions if their own directly okays it, either on a case-by-case basis or by whitelist. IE, you (or more likely, your muse,) asking your buddy's muse what kind of a mood he's in so you know if it's a good time to challenge him to a game of VR Football or not. His muse might pass the question on to him, it might have you on an okay list, or it might just answer questions like that in general. Likewise, people might set up their muses to allow varying degrees of cooperation with their forks; IE, Betas get access to non-incriminating information, Alphas get access to non-supersecret stuff, but only the original gets access to supersecret stuff that happened since the ego's backup was taken. Of course, I should point out that muses are simply software AIs - complicated, yes, but not so complicated they are beyond electronic attack.

Yes, although I suppose for
Yes, although I suppose for most things most of the time the Muse is not specifically configured, but rather has learned its behaviour from the owner and has a fairly extensive ability to extrapolate and act in new situations without consulting its owner. This could make it vulnerable to persuasion and trickery, especially if the muse has been stolen for interrogation about its owner (perhaps requiring a bit of hacking first to make it more amenable). I'd think that most muses would normally be unhelpful in the absence of its owner, but if told its owner is in trouble and its help is needed to assist him/her then it becomes less clear. The muse would likely be extremely vary of disclosing any information, and this would go doubly for the muse of criminals and other paranoid transhumans. I wonder though if a muse is activated by someone claiming to be a fork (or even original), but with a fake id, would it really be possible to persuade the muse that you are its owner without hacking? I'd be inclined to say no unless the owner was an incredibly trusting person. I'd say you would need to convince it with a brainscan or hack the muse to bypass its mistrust.
