The Mesh
root@The Mesh [hr] So what does the mesh look like to a normal user? What would the EP version of a forum be? There are a number of types of sites listed, including social sites and informational spimes, as well as simulspaces, darknets, petals, and customized overlays, but I lack a feel for the mesh. Does hypertext still see use? Is Unix still around? I know there is the danger of making a prediction and ending up with a really dated concept of the feed, but the best I can say is "not like Tron".

Re: The Mesh
I always imagined that most people never go beyond the level of AR in daily life. Most people have little reason unless they work in simulspace. Personally, I would have a hard time believing that forums, things like Facebook's 'wall' and such wouldn't be around. If anything, hypertext would be more common, embedded tables, pictures, and links to other pages/emails/whatever would be everywhere, because everyone would be capable of viewing them. What things actually look like would probably be the hardest to guess at, because anyone with even a little skill in image manipulation could customize everything. What's to say some people don't have their personal simulspaces look like Tron if they want it to? The feel I've gotten from the Mesh (and Shadowrun's Matrix for that matter) is that it's, usage wise, still very much like the Internet of today, only all pervasive and far more customizable.

Re: The Mesh
I'm with Teryn. The mesh is everywhere, but not as different as the current world wide web. Most people would stay most of the time in AR, and AR would have all kinds of current world functionalities but expanded into whole new additional functions as well. Its look, of course, would vary from place to place and from person to person, depending on how and why they choose to edit the world around them.

Re: The Mesh
1. "Anyone born within the last several generations has always lived in a world in which HYPER-REALISTIC, MULTI-SENSORY MEDIA of nearly any length is available for instantaneous download or upload from anywhere" - Eclipse Phase Main Rules Book pg.236 2. "Input from the mesh inserts is transmitted directly into the brain and sometimes perceived as augmented reality, overlaid on the user’s physical senses." Eclipse Phase Main Rules Book pg.237 3. "Most users perceive data from the mesh as augmented reality—information overlaid on the user’s physical senses. For example, computer-generated graphics will appear as translucent images, icons, or text in the user’s field of vision." Eclipse Phase Main Rules Book pg.239 4. "Virtual reality overrides the user’s physical senses and places them inside an entirely computer-generated environment called a simulspace. While AR is used for all common day activities and interactions, VR is used mainly for recreation (gaming, virtual tourism, escapism), socializing, meeting (when face-to-face meetings are not possible), and training. " Eclipse Phase Main Rules Book pg.240 5. "When accessing a simulspace, the user first enters an electronic buffer “holding space” known as a white room. Here the user chooses a customizable avatar-like persona to represent them in the simul- space, called a simulmorph. From this point, the user immerses themself in the virtual reality environment, effectively becoming their simulmorph." Eclipse Phase Main Rules Book pg.241 ...didn't mean to overload you with the quote-mobile (kind of feel like I am advocating for some Prop #), but I am learning the game right now and thought these passages were helpful. I honestly just imagine the Mesh to be an advanced version of the internet. When I consider the quotes above -basically considering the specific advancements in technology- I am able to consider the parameters of that technology and limitations. The tech in EP is on the verge of integrated dreaming. And you can take THAT to the bank (prop # make a come back!).
