BadBIOS, an airgap-jumping rootkit
While this is still viewed as possibly a elaborate hoax, if true it is rather worrying. As well as using any available networking connection, it sets up protocols to transmit via ultrasound, and actively repairs damaged infections.
Just goes to show, air-gapping won't always stop a TITAN virus...

It is true, but not how it's normally headlined.
Both devices were infected by traditional methods. The surprising bit is that the two infected devices would communicate with each other via ultrasound. Ultrasound communication has been used between computers for other applications. So this isn't as big a jump as many would imagine, but it's the first instance (that I"m aware of) of a virus being specialized to use this sort of out-of-band communications.
