Looking for feedback/help on a simple starting adventure idea

Posted this originally on [url=http://www.firewall-darkcast.com/forum/simple-starter-adventure-egocasti....

I have a few buddies who're thinking about playing EP as an off-game (from our regular DnD game). Was thinking about an introductory session (just two of them) where they pick archetypes and are egocast into simple robotic bodies (mining synths) in a far off mining colony on a mission for Firewall.

It think it'll be simpler and a good intro because...
1. You start off like they do in Lack with the "adjusting to a new body" (good intro to the setting).
2. While you don't get to play the character as-is (cause the morph is different and you don't have gear) it's also a lot simplier; everyone has the same, simple body and no gear. So no obsessing about what scads of different implants, morph traits, etc do.
3. If you die, or whatever, you don't lose your starting morph.

Any thoughts (good, bad, how it can be improved, etc...?)

Obviously, some character-types will adjust better to the resleeve than others (psi have some penalties, etc). Are there any sample characters from the book that would be totally ruined by it?

Now with lots and lots of brs.... :/
This was sort of hinted at in parts of the book so it's not original but...

The Anarchist Techie would

The Anarchist Techie would have to find new tools on site (probably doable with a scrounge test?).

Argonaut Xenoarcheologist has morphing disorder and Psi 2, so he will have a hard time with the new body, and with losing his Psi.

Barsoomian Freelance Journalist has some very good equipment that he'll feel the loss of, but should otherwise be fine.

Brinker Genehacker is going to bitch about how slow and stupid his new morph is.

Criminal Hacker can still be a hacker w/o the swarmanoid body, he's just not as cool.

Extropian Smuggler will feel like he's gone blind, but retains most of his effectiveness.

Hypercorp Black Marketeer isn't as hot, but is still good. High unarmed combat skill could be very useful in a resource limited environment.

Jovian Spy has morphing disorder, but his natural body isn't great to begin with. Only real loss is Neurachem.

Lunar Ego Hunter loses all her Psi (again at level 2), not much else.

Mercurial Investigator FTW.

Mercurial Scavenger loses a lot of good gear, and all his flavor.

Scum Enforcer loses neurachem, loses all armor, and may have to deal with her addiction. Her unarmed is still 60.

Socialite Escort also has 60 unarmed. Seems not particularly useful for this mission, but isn't ruined.

Titanian Explorer loses some neat gear, that's about it.

Ultimate Merc also has 60 unarmed. He loses his highly tricked out morph, and good armor/weapons.

Venusian Negotiatori is like socialite escort, but no unarmed skill, so worse.

My $0.02.

While this seems like a cool

While this seems like a cool idea, it would suck to miss your integration test.

Wow. Very detailed response.

Wow. Very detailed response. Thanks.

I confess to being keen to avoid lots of gear and morphs on the first outing. Correct me if I'm wrong but someone can spend a moxie point on the integration check?

You are not wrong. Great use

You are not wrong. Great use of a point too, when the alternative can be harsh penalties.

resleeving penalties
Yup, good use of a mox. As written, the rules impose penalties for taking Traumas due to Lucidity loss. As a design choice, this one is solid when you're dealing with crunch gamers, as it encourages caution in resleeving. In a tournament-type setting, it makes a lot of sense. However, if you have a group who are really good role-players (good enough that in playing out the effects of mental stress, they'll take actions that are detrimental to the interests of their PC for the sake of role-play), there's another option. In my game, I waive penalties for Traumas on a per-session basis if I feel that the player is doing a really good job of role-playing how Lucidity loss is affecting their character.

Re: resleeving penalties

That's also a good idea.

Unusual turn of events: I'm the player now. The GM may more may not use my idea.

I'm sure I'll wind up coming back to this idea sometime.
