Jovian Republic-long term goals? Relations with Reclaimers?
So I was wondering...What would be the long term goals of Jovian Republic? Since they are bioconservatives-shouldn't they be in good relations with Reclaimers wishing to restore Earth to humanity? I have my own ideas but would welcome other people's views before posting mine.

Re: Jovian Republic-long term goals? Relations with Reclaimers?
To me the relationship is a double edged sword because the Junta can exist precisely because the environment they are in is small and secure with limited comings and goings. It's like the old iron curtain back when the Soviets were a superpower. The junta may not be able to exist in an environment with too many competing memes because although robust the Junta's meme does not allow for many new ideas. The Junta can control the propagation of ideas only on a small surface. Going back to earth and reclaiming it would be good for them from an ethical standpoint and also a great rallying point to produce bio-conservative unity. However they know that if they ever succeed in carving out a piece for the Republic on earth it will have to be a small area so that they Jovians can monitor the comings and goings of outsiders that may spread dangerous ideas. The larger the physical periphery of their border is the easier it is to patrol for undesirables and forbidden technology. I'd actually see them trying to go clean up someplace like Hawaii Madagascar or Australia to get a foothold while still being able to monitor the comings and goings to the island.

Re: Jovian Republic-long term goals? Relations with Reclaimers?
My take on internal factions in Jovian Republic: *Heritage faction would seek to rebuild military position of the Jovian republic and destroy TITAN remnants on Earth, reclaiming it. It's mainly composed of former military and space navy staff, veterans of war with TITANS(including people who fought on the ground-think of Kyle Reese, Sarah Connor when thinking of their attitude and beliefs) *Alamo faction sees its goal to protect the last remains of "pure and untouched humans"(this one is in charge currently, most factions acknowledge the rest of transhumanity as spoiled at ultimately leading to repeat of the TITAN-like disaster), made mostly of escaped bioconservative politicians and intelligence officials/operatives *Third Option/Escapists faction-settling of other stars, grey colonies(asteroids sent into deep space with long term habitation goal and hidden)-various members, some adventurous military folks and scientists with mix of space navy people. *Patriarchs-rich families from military-industrial and energy complex of former USA together with some political dynasties that seek to continue their influential lifestyles and escape consequences of their contribution to the Fall(the Rich 6 are the most notable dynasties) Current regime is composed of Patriarch/Alamo faction Dissenters *radical bioconservatives who try to ban all kind of mods and introduce only Flat lifestyle, *Hermes Group-made in secret by original space colonists in Jovian facilites, engineers and some scientists who would like to tap the enourmous potential of Jupiter system in full(terrafroming Europa combined with biomods, gasbag life in atmosphere and so on) All those factions are not represented as parties-rather they cover various institutions and official parties in Jovian Republic, and compete for influence. The current power struggle is stable-with Alamo/Patriarch faction being in charge and bribing easily Heritage faction with funds for military and warfare research. The A/P rule welcomes the status quo even though they do want to boost military capabilities of JR. Heritage faction has its people in Intelligence services and would like to scheme a grand war in Sol System to cripple Planetary Consortium with Lunar and Morningstar powers starting war with PC, and planned later involvement of JR to take over Mars. Later with consolidated resources of Mars, Jovian system and Luna they plan to retake Earth. Rogue Patriarch members(mainly those from former political parties whose members were slaughtered during Exodus by PC) do assist them in covert ways. The least influential group(Third Option) is mainly attached to science and exploration research as well as threat assesment. The Jovians make good use of Reclaimers as their spying network, and have infiltrated several Reclaimer groups and factions. Heritage faction hopes to use them as terror/sabotage operatives in war against PC. There is also connection to Nine Lives involved with aftermath of secret operation by North American forces but that I will detail later. So what do you think ?

I have been thinking of similiar things, although Madagascar or Australia might be too big. I been thinking of safe havens like Ascension Island or Marquesas Islands. Perhaps a thread for potential targets of recolonization might be in order.

I like this sketch. I think there is another, possibly quite influential group: the Prosperity group. They want to ensure safety and good living standards for the citizens. While defeating outside threats and surviving another Fall are laudable goals, most people want to live well. Economic blockades, limited resources, heavy taxes, corruption and technology bans make people unhappy. The prosperity fraction pushes against the others to get more economic growth, higher standards of living and (sometimes) greater transparency. They are by no means against bioconservatism, it is just that they want to focus resources on popular goals within the republic. So there is a constant tug-o-war between them and the ambitious and militaristic fractions. The prosperity group is not unified enough to be a real threat to their actual power, but popular enough that it must be bought off now and then.

Hmm, the Junta and 9L make a nasty pair. If you are bioconservative and think stacks and uploads do not contain any real humans, you might feel it is entirely OK to sell off such simulacra to the egotraders. After all, it is at most a victimless crime.

please, can I nuke these fuckers? I hated them before, now... what's stronger than hate? Bioconservatism is something I dispice irl (in that I strongly support GMOs and human cloning), so it's a no brainer that I'm going to diabolize them in my games. I also think that there is a strong christian fundamentalism meme going in the JR (all the more reason for me to dislike them!). It is likely that several members of the Alamo Faction are also bible pushers, most probably the last ones in existence.

Juan Posts: Every group has its fundamentalists. We have seen that through out history. That isn't grounds to nuke my home and kill my family. We are the last bastion of humanity and thus are entrusted with the preservation of the human soul and human culture. If the Reclaimers can take back the Earth we will decide then if we should also return to Earth. But for now we Jovians are concerned with humanity's survival and we will take out any threat to us. Remember we have the best military and intelligence agency in the system. There is very little that occurs that we don't know about.

Thanks-I think I will expand this somewhat more and start Jovian Briefings series-I wrote some other stuff on the Republic and perhaps it would be good to collect those creations in homebrew section on the forum.
