The pro-democracy student protests in Hong Kong are using an app called FireChat that forms a Mesh network through Bluetooth in order to get around cell phone and wi-fi outages.
If you have a smartphone, I strongly suggest getting Firechat, it would come in real handy if there's a natural disaster or local tyranny outbreak. Maybe we could start an EP firechat thing.

They are not. They are, however, deploying agents provocateur who are spreading firmware-specific surveillance malware via FireChat. We have not yet been able to devise countermeasures, though samples of the malware have been acquired.
