'Her' Trailer
I saw this, and thought of Eclipse Phase. An antisocial man falls in love with his Muse; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QRvTv_tpw0

Muse personalities were
Muse personalities were probably crafted over years of trial and error to be just friendly enough to become companions, but not be friendly enough to potentially encourage romantic relationships. I can see this as a sort of "beta muse", too early for developers to figure out that sweet spot. Of course, I'm sure there are plenty of people who aftermarket mod their muses for this purpose, if that's what they want. It looks interesting. I'm definitely going to see this.

This is going to have a bittersweet ending where the AI dies and he winds up with the human woman he was talking about love with (the one who said it was a socially accepted form of insanity), I can tell. Well, that, or the AI will go creepy-obsessive over him and become the movie's main villain, but it doesn't look like it from the trailer.

I hope not. I hate those moral tales where a love story has to end badly because the two people involved are not an acceptable match in society. I hope they go with a more pragmatic ending where they come to grips with their feelings, and the limitations of their relationship, and they end up together. The sad part is that would be a subversion of the norm. It could be nice.

Not to mention, AGI research needs a movie like this. Something to introduce the more positive aspects of digital life and enough of this Matrix/Terminator bullshit. I mean, those are good movies, but almost the entire population's perception of what artificial intelligence is comes from those and similar films.
Your passion is power. Focus it. Your body is a tool. Hone it. Transhummanity is a pantheon. Exalt it!

Sounds like it might almost be as good as Cherry 2000.

With a household robot and good AI and virtual/augmented reality, women are in so much trouble. Let's hope someone makes a billionaire husband, hunky poolboy sim for them. I'm only half kidding.

in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only misogyny
Soylent Green addressed that issue in an interesting way. I never read "Make Room" but the film with Charlton Heston came out in the middle of the womens lib / sexual revolution (before my time, but I saw it on HBO when I was a kid in the 80s). Anyway, they we're not thinking about ubiquitous computing and personality emulation or anything like that, but it was a cool take on gender inequality in a dystopian future. Women were basically furniture, like they came with a furnished apartment when you signed the lease kind of thing. I could see something similar happening to indentures in some environments. For something that bills its self as a "horror" game, there's a whole lot of utopian anarchy and gender equality in most of the published material

I just saw this movie
It's outstanding. You should all go see it and take your significant others with you. It has been nominated for Best Picture and I hope it wins (though American Hustle and Gravity are both also nominated in this category and both are really good too). There isn't too much about Her that is directly translatable into an EP campaign, but you will leave the theater thinking about topics that are completely relevant to EP.
