Getting a new muse
The default muses are intended to be the AIs people grew up with: they know the person intimately, they interact in just the right way to get the results that are desired. But what happens if a person has to get an entirely new muse, or never had one in the first place? While there are no doubt some nice off-the-shelf muses out there with plugins to customize them to an adult, they will not be as perfect as an old muse. Since this has come up in my current game I would like to tweak the muse stats to fit this. My guess is that the INT should be reduced to 10 - it normally denotes the intuition of the muse in regards of the owner, not people in general. And the high level of Psychology 60 also seems to be experience boosted - it should probably be 40. Does this make sense? Maybe the muse skill and aptitudes will grow towards the normal range over time, say a year of use or so.

Actually, page 48 says that a muse should be fully accustomed to their owner after about a month or two of service. Remember that while they are advanced AI, they are not actually learning beings. The data they keep is largely limited to knowing their users' tastes and activities on their mesh inserts, and they don't really learn or grow as beings. For the most part, the only real ability that a muse has is a better sense of empathy than other AI. The real problem with getting a new muse is less likely to be with the AI than with the person... chances are that he will still be in shock from losing what he has anthropomorphized into a lifetime friend and companion, that it will put strain on what is a newfound relationship with its replacement.

Its like when a pet dies, and you get a new pet. It's not the replacement pet that needs to adjust, its the owner.

Whats stopping people from backing up the muse at the same time as backing up themselves therefore having access to if when they are resleeved after death or if they happen to loose it in a different way. Unless you have never had a Muse i cant think of many times you would need to get a new one?

I think people back up not just their egos but their exoselves and virtual possessions - which includes muses and other AI.

In my game the characters kind of never had muses (it is complicated), but I can imagine situations where someone needs to abandon all their past and just flee. A muse might be possible to track, especially if it was designed from the start to have that feature.

The first scenario that comes to mind is if your Muse goes insane. AI have lucidity scores, and are therefore just as vulnerable to insanity as people (if not moreso, since they cannot increase their Willpower aptitude that high and it starts at only 10). If it goes insane, then your only option may be to restore an earlier backup... and if there are no backups from well before its lucidity dropped into the red, you're probably better off getting a new one.

Re: Getting a new muse
Decivre got the right idea, I just want to take it one step more general and point out that back-up copies can be lost, destroyed, corrupted, or rendered unavailable. If you have only one back up it can get compromised quickly. If you lots of back-up you have more points of vulnerability. Generally it would take powerful NPC opposition to screw a character out of there muse, but that's the name of the game for Sentential.
