Fishing for ideas: what's the film grain or record pop of EP media?
To quote Brian Eno
Quote:
“Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.”
Each medium carries with it some sort of defect that as always ends up being a beloved staple and desired aesthetic. With EP and the state of digital media, is it so perfect that this 'truism' no longer applies? XP recordings seem ripe for a kitschy defect. A lingering sensory ghost? Unavoidable dizziness? Gimme some ideas!

An inability for Holographic
An inability for Holographic Projectors to render shadows correctly, leading to fancy full-sense VR games where nothing has any shadow at all (or perhaps only blobby drop shadows)
A slight smell of ions....

AIs as media?
What about goofy behavior quirks common to early ALIs or something like that?

...Did the sky always have a Watermark?...
For XP, i'd say overly subjective experiences. Simple elements would be things we experience but the brain usually tunes out; Eye floaters, jitters from eye motion, distortions in Field of View and Depth of Field, that sort of thing. More intrusive possibillities could include Intrusive associative effects (Objects and people within the XP change according to alterations in how the recorder interpreted them, and include details from other experiences), false memories (elements are included that did not happen and may be incompatible with reality)and pre-processing artifacts (straight sense input before the brain gives context - a dog is a smear of color intersecting dimensionless lines and angles)
In the past we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again?
