So can an infected transhuman just put a bullet through their brain and revert to a backup pre-infection?

However, if I read the Exsurgent-related sections right, by the time the character realizes they have been infected (and before they are removed from the player's control), the virus will have at least some influence on them, so shooting themselves would take quite some willpower to actually pull off.

Better yet have the player think s/he killed himself. Just wait till they find out the infected version is obsessed about the original and wants to "meld" together as one. Add in a few body altering changes, and the player might not realize how much they have in common with their new romantic interest.
