DPR network
I know better than to try coming up with excessively detailed stats for a system I'm still only barely familiar with; so this following is more along the lines of the framework I'd use to generate such stats, if I /did/ know the best way to make them. Any suggestions, commentaries, and criticism are welcomed and encouraged. :) DPR Concept: Immortalist hacktivist, who acquires @-Rep by leveraging his forks' wide presence into an anonymizing network, and acquires cred through a courier service focused on encryption keys, one-time pads, and qubits. Not a banyan; DPRs rarely, if ever, merge long-separated forks, instead relying on social rather than technological means to ensure each forks' self-interest is best served by working towards the benefit of all the other forks. Hobby: Putting together a Von Neumann seed from the 'standard gear set', containing a full backup, and arranging for its placement in a randomly-chosen, currently-unused location. The backup listens for occasional signals that confirm the original is still alive, and if they fail to arrive for a time, or if the random-number generator decides that the signals may be spoofed, the backup is awakened to start using the nanofab to build a safehab, and, if necessary, start rebuilding civilization. Standard Morph: Data packrats (synth) Appearance: http://landingzone.deviantart.com/art/Make-a-run-for-it-154834557 Enhancements: Access Jacks, Basic Mesh Inserts, Cortical Stack, Cyberbrain, Mnemonic Augmentation, Fractal Digits (tail), Nanoscopic Vision, Multiple Personalities (x4) Mobility System: Walker Aptitude Maximum: 30? Durability: 15? Wound Threshold: 3? Advantages: Armor (2/2), counts as a small target in combat (-10 to hit; p. 193, EP) Disadvantages: Social Stigma (Creepy synth morph) CP Cost: ? Credit Cost: ? Preferred upgrades: Eelware, Grip Pads, Dead Switch, Wheeled mobility (skatewheels in feet), Hidden Compartment with Faraday Container (GC p160) lining Standard gear set: DataPac morph Specialized Nanomachine hive, guardian nanoswarm Flashlight/firefly nanoswarm? Solar recharger (GC p155) Portable solarchives (GC p156) Desktop Cornucopia Machine Feedstock, small amount Blueprints (all of the above: Data packrat synth moph, nanofabs, etc) Primary Ego: DPR Usual job: Decision-making and policy-setting, acting as front-man @-rep Traits: Allies (other DPRs) Motivations: +Immortality, +Libertarianism, +Techno-Progressivism AGI 1: Hamelin Usual job: General research Primary skills: COG, knowledge, mental, Academics (various), Research, r-rep Traits: Fast Learner, Math Wiz, Feeble (Savvy) Preferred Avatar: White Rat, male Motivations: +Research, +Education, +Open Source Mental disorder tendencies: Schizoid (ie, turning into a hermit) Politics: Jeffersonian AGI 2: Vaun Usual job: run the firewall and guardian nano, active surveillance of PAN Primary skills: WIL, technical, Infosec, g-rep Traits: Danger Sense Preferred Avatar: Bat, neuter Motivations: +Wealth, -Fame, -Philanthropy Mental disorder tendencies: Paranoia Politics: Hamiltonian AGI 3: Brazen Usual job: Handle rep networks Primary skills: SAV, social, Networking (various), f-rep Traits: Animal Empathy, First Impression, Timid Preferred Avatar: Black Bear, female Motivations: +Fame, +Artistic Expression, +Socialism Mental disorder tendencies: Depression Politics: Wilsonian AGI 4: Nathal Usual job: run the morph Primary skills: combat, physical Traits: Adaptability Preferred Avatar: Fox-taur, herm Motivations: +Hedonism, +Morphological Freedom, -Bioconservatism Mental disorder tendencies: Paraphilias Politics: Jacksonian Publicized info: The free DataPac VPN service is useful for anonymization. Public but only carefully publicized: DPRs are almost everywhere, and are good at couriering data effectively untraceably through their private onion network, for the right price. Most useful to send this way are encryption keys, one-time pads, and qubits. Secret #1: Semi-secret: Making preparations so at least one hidden backup can recreate transhuman civilization from a single nanofab, if need be. Secret #2: Secret: Wants to use his various forks to explore various methods of self-improvement, potentially becoming a human-derived seed AI. Secret #3: Deep secret: Original identity. Most likely: an original space colonist and a brinker who created a new set of identities during the Fall. Actually: a blatant authorial self-insertion. :) PC Hooks: * PCs use the DPR net to exchange keys with someone. * PCs hired by DPR to safeguard courier * PCs hired to raid a DPR courier, to secretly compromise keys * Gatecrasher PCs are asked to quietly carry a DPR Von Neumann seed through and bury it, without necessarily being told everything about what it is (Earlier discussion: http://www.eclipsephase.com/character-concept-polite-von-neumann , http://www.eclipsephase.com/multiple-multiple-personalities , http://www.eclipsephase.com/thought-experiment-building-safe-hab , http://www.eclipsephase.com/anonymity-network )

Re: DPR network
Addendum #1: When used properly, onion-style anonymization networks such as the DPR network can provide useful increases in anonymity even when some of the nodes have been compromised and are under the control of hostile groups. Due to carefully-constructed nested layers of public-key encryption, and careful choices of message-delays between nodes, the only way for an attacker to even have a decent chance of analyzing traffic well enough to identify a connection entering one point of the anon-net as being linked to a connection leaving the anon-net elsewhere, is to compromise all the nodes in the anon-net used to carry that connection. The DPR network is designed such that, by default and wherever possible, all such connections are routed through at least one actual DPR; and at least one node controlled by someone /other/ than DPR, so that even DPR himself can't eavesdrop on his own network. The more nodes a network has, the more choices every user has to route their traffic, and thus the harder it is to analyze their network traffic patterns (let alone try to figure out its content), and thus the greater the anonymity provided. Thus, DPRs usually try to increase the number of nearby computers acting as nodes. The simplest, and politest, is to use their nanofab to build full-fledged ectos to place in strategic locations, supplemented by 'e-fleas' (Motes and Sky Motes, Gatecrashing p154 and p163). When a DPR is in an area filled with groups which are already hostile to his presence (or even his existence), then in addition to engaging in defensive mesh combat, he will also try to use malware to surreptitiously implement routing nodes on other computers. DPR is currently seeking blueprints for self-replicating antenna-bots, such as the ones used in Corinth Parkways in north Elysium, rather than having to rely on the production bottleneck of his own nanofabs.
