Digitigrade Legs
Any suggestions for what bonuses Digitigrade Legs might provide? I'd think + to top running speed, jumping, kick damage and falling damage. Description ideas: The morph's hips and legs have been completely regrown in a design that mimics the hind legs of a quadruped. The new configuration allows for a longer stride and the muscle and ligaments absorb energy each step to release like a coiled spring. This allows the morph to run faster, jump higher and absorb more energy from falling. The feet can be hoof-shaped, paw-shaped, or splayed like the feet of a bird.

Yes. All the benefits you've described apply. However, apply lower stability, lower load bearing capacity. -Additional weapons accuracy when firing -Weight Max carriable +Overload penalties. Also, digitigrade movement tends to generate less sound than plantigrade movement (think of wolves or foxes stealthy trots), so +Stealth.
As mind to body, so soul to spirit. As death to the mortal man, so failure to the immortal. Such is the price of all ambition.

Re: Digitigrade Legs
Good points! Any idea what the numbers would look like? Running: "For most of transhumanity, this movement rate is the same: 4 meters per Action Turn walking, 20 meters per turn running." Maybe a +5 to maximum run speed? So 4 walking as the legs wouldn't give much of a bonus to walking; 25 running speed and 50 sprinting? Jumping: "Characters making a running jump can cross SOM ÷ 5 (round up) meters; use SOM ÷ 20 (round up) meters for standing jumps. Vertical jumping height is 1 meter." So maybe SOM ÷ 4 (round up) for running jumps, SOM ÷ 15 (round up) for standing jumps? Kicking: Something like 1d10 + SOM ÷ 2 (round up)? I couldn't find anything in the rules for kicking damage. Falling: Maybe halve falling damage if under 8 meters, 1-2 takes no damage? Something like that? Stability: A tail could help eliminate the stability issues, though -10 to balance checks with out? Reduce weight capacity: "Any test that involves simple brute strength can be handled as an SOM x 3 Test." So perhaps a SOM x 2 involving carrying or lifting with the legs? -Additional weapons accuracy when firing: -5 with out a tail or some other balancing aid? But really it shouldn't have much of an effect with a good stance before you fire. Also recoil isn't much of an issue with 'modern' weapons. -Weight Max carriable and +Overload penalties: That would be a GM / common sense issue. I don't see any need for hard numbers here. Stealth: +10 against detecting the morph via hearing? Anyway that was my idea on the numbers but I'm not very experienced with the system. Could someone with more experience look over this and let me know what they think?

Anyone have any comments on these numbers/ideas?

Re: Digitigrade Legs
I think it should be noted that hooves, paws and bird's feet have different advantages and disadvantages. They probably wouldn't carry identical statistics. Bird's feet aren't built for walking, and are too fragile to support body weight individually. Hence why birds hop. Hooves carry far more weight than paws, and are great for creatures that have long strides and good running speed (not great for sprinting). On the other hand, paws heal better than hooves do. So I don't think it's wise to pack these all together as one modification.

Re: Digitigrade Legs
Good points. I kinda took the foot configurations from "Kid Stealth" cyber legs from Shadowrun... If they were cyber limbs it'd make things a lot easier as technology can fix some of the shortcomings of biological systems but I'd like an idea of how they'd work as bioware. I'd really like some opinions on the numbers I put forward as well as I'm really unsure if those sound good or not. Raptors and tyrannosaurus had digitigrade legs; the thick tail helped offset the weight of the huge head and upper body. In a humanoid the tail wouldn't need to be nearly as thick to act as a counterbalance and they have arms to act as stabilizers. I would think paws and hooves would be nearly identical in a creature weighing around 250lbs. That part would be mostly cosmetic than a functional barrier. One could argue paws would give better traction than hooves but rubber pads could solve that. As for splayed feet, well, tyrannosaurs and raptors had those and they didn't hop. Just look at the roadrunner or ostrich for examples of running birds.

Re: Digitigrade Legs
For a large body bird, I'd expect 2 claw feet like an Ostrich, not the weak hopping feet of a flying bird. Ostrich legs would be impressive, since they can hit 70km/h running, and can kill lions and humans with a single kick - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostrich#Attacks. Then again, the thigh muscle is the size of a small human torso... An ostrich-morph could be fun. Stats-wise, you may want to divide digigrade legs into those optimised for leaping (think Kangaroo, maybe use the telescoping limbs rule), and those optimised for speed. DX

Re: Digitigrade Legs
I like that idea. Two sets of numbers, one optimized for running and another for jumping. Add in some tweaks to the neck and shoulder blades and you could even run on all 4s fairly well. Your standing height would be shorter than normal humans though stretching up you'd be mostly full height, maybe a bit taller or shorter depending on what type of legs you had. I'm kinda sad nobody has even commented on the numbers I put forward but oh well.

Re: Digitigrade Legs
I recommend setting up an entry on Digitigrade Leg Ware on Darkcast and invite the Forum there to discuss different variants and their numbers. + you'd have a wiki you can link for easy reference and editability. I'll look into your numbers later, gotta feed my body first :)
