I have been looking for a good system to do the themes and ideas of Deus Ex for a long time (since the first game) and while I have used and abused many different systems I think Eclipse Phase with appropriate tweaking (not much really imho) would work fantastically well for Deus Ex.
Both settings use very similar tropes, Im just curious as I embark on my own conversion of Deus Ex Eclipse Phase, Has anyone else done something similar with the Eclipse Phase system?
Cheers all,
Abhoth

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
Remembering only the original Deus Ex, I'd say that the defunct Cyberpunk 2020 (stay away from the V3, for god's sake!) would be better suited to play games in that kind of atmosphere, but adapting EP is easy in the mechanical point: remove the morphs (save for the baseline, the splicers, and maybe the olympians for players, and keep some of the synthmorphs for NPC's) and change a lot of the setting. Then switch most of the biomods to be cybernetic augmentations, define new factions, and you have the basic frame to start with.

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
Modifying Eclipse Phase to fit the Deus Ex setting would be a nightmare, but the style of gameplay and themes (corporate conspiracies, espionage, questions of what makes people humans, singularities, etc.) merge like a hand in a glove. Hence, it'd be just a lot easier to run a standard EP game with the players as police/investigators/Oversight members investigating things.
Other good inspiration is Ghost in the Shell, which is quite similar in its exploration of these themes.
Tweaking is possible, for the record, if you really want to, but I'd avoid it, because snipping one branch means snipping dozens.

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
I sneaked in some DX references in my take of the setting, adventures and stories alike
As example, I'll give you my young angry Scum enforcer, Jessica Chelsea "JC" Denton, who has a strong dislike of the Planetary Consoritium and anybody affiliated with them at one point or another, including Argonauts as a whole. She has a male Alpha Fork named Paul and (had) son named Alexander, stolen from her local ex-utero fertility center by Cognite and made into a Futura Child, and now missing.
My version of Tracer Tong is actually one of Mason Wang's contacts on Locus, whom my PC might get to meet in Glory if they thing about doing a Networking (Science) roll. He's bitter about being used by about everybody, and now lives a low, but tranquil life as implants fixer and blueprints smuggler.

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
I've been using the new game(DX:HR) as inspiration, as the art work and tech, e.g. weapons designs are very useable in EP.
DX is also a good 'half-way house' for players who aren't up to speed on the wilder parts of transhuman thought. If they enjoy Deus Ex, EP is an easier sell, for players who find the setting too weird to go into cold.
Cheers

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
There is something that screamed EP to me in Deus Ex HR.
In the Precinct, when you talk to that rude prick (no, not that Haashole, the other one!)
he says something that just tilted for me.
Then during the autopsy, the MedEx said something that was confirmed just a few minutes later by this dear Francis Prick-chard
There are so many ideas and concept in that game that is resonant with EP, it just begs for being borrowed. Maybe not as a whole, but separatedly, that game is a bloody goldmine!
* The concept of praxis could be adapted to EP: it is the blueprints for Implants to be loaded in healing vats to weave cybernetics into your morph, and transmitted with you when egocasting.
* The Neuroprozine could be a drug distributed by hypercorps to their Ruster and Alpiner-sleeved indentures. Once they stop taking it, the programmed obsolescence kicks in.
* Majestic 12 could make a good Jovian equivalent to the PC's Oversight, or another secret organisation that is an overshoot of Ozma, Firewall, Oversight.
*Eliza Cassan just begs to be adapted! An Experia icon if there ever were one!
Spoiler: Highlight to view
He said that on the stolen intelicam footage, the two mercs were carrying something when they came in, and they were here for Megan's researches. I shouted, out loud "Oh my gosh! they've got an egobridge!" then I remembered I was playing DX, not EP
Spoiler: Highlight to view
the MedEx spoke about some wetdrive, among the factory's assault dead hacker's hidden Neuronal augmentation. that first red flag that had popped even at the time of the trailer, showing the hacker blowing his own head off with a 10 mm while called help me, popped again and was screaming 'Ghost Rider module'. Then, when Frank was examining the extracted implants raised even more: puppetsocks implants!

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
Playing Human Revolution, I've been overwhelmed by a conviction that if ever there was to be an Eclipse Phase CRPG, Eidos Montreal would be a fine studio to pick it up. The transhumanists on the team really have the appropriate mojo.
Also, I don't know about the developers, but at least one moderator on the official DX:HR fora is a very clear Eclipse Phase fan. They use the tagline as their signature. Also their biography. http://forums.eidosgames.com/member.php?u=92076

Found that link, thought i'd share.
Its an interesting 12min video which compares Deus Ex Cyberware to what would be possible today.

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
This is truly mind blowing! and hope inspiring
I really hope time when augmentations like the ones seen in DXHR are available will be soon enough before I'm too old to willingly choose to get them before I NEED them.
For me, it ought to be out of my lifelong wish and willingness to depart bits of my humanity rather than the need or necessity. This is something I've wanted for as long and as far back as I remember. As a real life person, it is not transhumanism that I look forward to, it's posthumanism.

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
Well Im doing Im creating a whole list of Cybernetic augmentations for a Deus Ex Eclipse Phase game. However I am running into one issue. The issue of Strength, you can get really strong characters but the damage they do is kinda ridiculously low. for example a 40 SOMATICS score does not do much dmg, whereas it should "Kill" a unaugmented human in one blow. The dmg of such a person is 1d10+4 (SOM/10) and a "flat, umodified human" has a durability of 30.
Anyone have any suggestions on this? Im also thinking the bioware armour mod from EP, I am thinking a cybernetic adv material (non biological) version of the armour would be MUCH more protective (and keeping in line with a Deus Ex cybernetic armour I guess). How does that sound?

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
I'd really like to see that list when you're done :)
On the strength boost, I have boosts like MRDR do +1d10 to DV instead of just the +1 DV a +10 SOM would give. Deus Ex cyber-strength boosts could be similar - level 1 = +1d10+1, lvl 2 +2d10+2, etc. So a level 2 strength punch would be doing 3d10+3 DV, potentally lethal, and certainly wounding, as min damage is 6.
For the cyber version of dermal plating, I agree, much more protective if you don't care about looking human. I'd treat it as robotic-type light or heavy combat armor.
Thoughts?

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
I like that idea for the strength boost DX, So I am going to "borrow" it :), Im still working on the list Im essentially ripping things off from Deus Ex Human Revolution and adapting implants from Eclipse Phase. I will post a beta list when its ready.

Re: Deus Ex Eclipse Phase :)
Have you seen the Deus Ex comic books ? Some nice imagery to inspire your EP games.
Reading it, though, I"m constantly thinking that EP would make a kickass comic book series.

RE: Working on this still
My current (2) eclipse phase games have been occuping my limited time as has work, but I am still dead-set on doing this and the first thing I must solve is the stat issue (ie the issue with COG 40 not having any game effects that truely describe the potential comapred to some one with COG 5).
