Could Plasma Pistols Exist atm in EP? And why are energy weapons weak?
Generally in combat and overall gaming we have found bullet based firearms to be much more effective then say a Plasma rifle which is described as in game as a one hit, one kill weapon. To go with the fluff more and because we want our game to reflect the description of hte plasma rifle (and other energy weapons) as much as possible, as it stands a firearm on fully-auto without speical ammo still does stacks more dmg then a plasma rifle, yet the fluff of the plasma rifle is ""This bulky, heavy, two-handed weapon blasts a stream of nova-hot plasma at the target, inflicting severe burns and thermal damage, possibly melting or evaporating the target entirely. Plasma rifles are perhaps the deadliest man-portable weapons in use"". Nova Hot Plasma...deadlist man portable weapon in use. Based on that alone we have buffed the dmg of that and other energy weapons. *Plasma Rifles My group thinks that plasma rifles are written as the "one shot, one kill" weapons of EP but the actual numbers don't support this. After some extensive play testing with my group in various mock combats we feel that the below stats for the Plasma Rifle meet the in game fluff (I should point out we believe the Plasma Rifle SHOULD be very VERY powerful). Suggested change for: Plasma Rifle: 6d10+20 damage AP-10, Cool Down Period is eliminated. (please note we feel this level damage is realistic so you could actually vaporise a synthmorph or biomorph with one shot) * Energy Weapons We also think that energy weapons in general are too weak in their damage output, we suggest that all energy weapons receive a boost of 1d10 damage and a higher armour penetration of approx -4. In particular is the Particle Beam Bolter: This weapon is described as causing massive amounts of kinetic energy to the target, superheating and creating an explosion when striking. The actual dice damage are laughable when compared to the previous fluff description if anything this weapon seems to be more powerful then the Plasma Rifle. Ergo we also think this weapon should be massively buffed. Suggested Changes (generic) for all beam weapons: +1d10 damage all around and increasing the penetration to approx -4. Specific suggested change for the Particle Beam Bolter: 3d10+30, AP-8. Also how possible do you think it is to miniaturise the Plasma Rifle and Particle Beam Bolter? So that you could actually have "Pistol" or "smaller Rifle" versions of them? How long would it take to research that miniaturizing?

The nice thing about EP is your doing this is improving the universe. Just say, four months after the game start date, that some DA engineers have found an improved plasma vaporization chamber, which greatly increases the effective transmitted energy. Next mission, the players encounter DA or Ozma guys with this gear. A few months after that (or earlier, depending on their rep), they get their hands on one too. Then come out with the next super armor, to keep them on their toes :P

Re: Could Plasma Pistols Exist atm in EP? And why are energy ...
Energy weapons have some advantages over projectile weapons that aren't considered in simple damage comparisons. 1. A weapon that runs off electricity, like a laser, now recharges at the rate of 20 shots per hour, or one every 3 minutes thanks to the thoughtful and helpful explanation of "nuclear batteries" given in gatecrashing. So after a while you laser pistol will be ready to go and will have ammo for years until the nuclear batteries wear out or, more realistically, the laser weapon's circuitry fails and needs replacing. (I'm glad someone took note of my quibble with the term "nuclear battery" and clarified them to be RTG/storage packs.) 2. a laser and some other energy weapons produce no effective recoil, which you'd appreciate after firing a burst from a slug thrower in zero G and getting knocked into space or slammed into a wall by the recoil. 3. Due to no recoil and the speed of the shot, lasers are hella accurate.
