Concerning the Whimsy of an uninfected surviving Seed AGI (spoiler warning for background)
As we know there are a number of Seed AGI's that survived the Fall uninfected and even fought back against The Titans (exsurgent infected AGI's) and that some of these Seed AGI's went on to form Fire-Wall. I was thinking about motivations and personalities and goals for some of these Seed AGI's that prehaps or prehaps did not enter unto the Fire-Wall alliance and what they maybe after (givin the assumption that they/it/etc did help with humanities defence). My idea is that one of these Seed AGI's (following and prehaps influencing the Ultimate faction) concepts is that humanity must prepare for conflict as not only a needed goal for survival but as the very essence of what it is to live. To be the highest level of evolution means constantly testing yourself, adapting, learning new skill sets, new technologies and testing yourself against and over coming equal or greater opponenets to increase your skill set and knowledge base and to prove you are "The Fittest to survive", Essentially the Hunt forms a core part of this concept, you hunt dangerous things to prove to yourself, your faction (read Tribe), The Univerase you are the fittest to survive. Of course certain rules are followed to ensure the Test is real and so on. Following this idea this Seed AGI has started to create a culture that embraces this concept of Evolution via conflict, survival of the fitest and the Ritual of the Hunt. My concept is that the Seed AGI wanted a way of prompting humanity by introducing a threat that is not insurmountable like the vast AGI armies of the Titans, but somthing somthing that could represent the ideals the AGI wanted to use and prehaps impart onto say the Ultimates faction and prehaps give them new technologies if they prove themselves. In searching for how to go about this and how to represent this concept in a Iconic fashion my idea is the Seed AGI came across an old series of digitially recorded movies from before the fall (much before the fall) and from these movies recognizing them as "Legends" and "Fables" of the time before the fall and prehaps misunderstanding or overstating their importantce used them as a baseline to get this idea across. So he created a life form (alien, organic but artifical capable of repoduction and highly technological but embracing the concept of Evolution via conflict (using technology and anything to survive), survival of the fitest, and the Ritual of the Hunt) to "test" humanity and try and get them to compete and grow stronger. This new life form would abducate and hunt various "worthy" human warriors/predators and the ones who survived would be released back into the trans-human population to hopefully improve the species. The idea would be a group of ultiamtes view (prehaps with prodding) this as the Ultimate Challange they must undergo over and over to Prove Themselves. Prehaps the Seed AGI decided to leave and yet the experiment take on a life of its own, not longer watching over the Hunter Race or its human prey. This is an idea I am currently kicking round with, now obviously the movie series and tv series to which I refer and drew inspiration from is Predator and Predators (ignoring the rest) and Babylon 5 (The Shadows). My question for the community is how to actually stat out a Predator, how to stat out the weapons and cloaking field and technology. How to take into account ingame rapid technological change by the players and Hunters themselves, as they prehaps change themselves, change their sleeves, their technology. How do you all handle rapid technological change (better nanites, better weapons, better sleeves etc).

Up until the hunter species part, I was thinking you could name the AI GLaDOS :P The one problem is that introducing a new species is always dangerous (from the point of plausible deniability) and must be approached with extreme caution. As far as we can tell, aside from the Brokers, there are no living intelligent species in the galaxy - and this seems reasonable given theory on the matter. Any species which is bouncing around must be one which has found a niche that requires it stay more or less static for geological periods of time. So you'll probably want to plant your species on an exoplanet, to explain why we haven't encountered it before, put clear limitations on its behavior, adaptability and/or intelligence, to explain why it hasn't evolved to the point of the singularity, and... forgot the last one. Alternatively, you can just blame it on the TITANs. Those crazy AGIs made soem destructive species and unleashed it on us, for reasons unknown. Regardless, it does require a degree of conspiracy to avoid the AGI being found out, and the purpose of the threat being circumvented.

I may even do away completely with the "Hunter Species" or prehaps only include it as a fork the Seed AGI tried and then dismissed but didnt destroy and instead lean towards a more series of bizzarely dangerous situations and various artifically generated life forms trying to kill people, endanger whole communities etc while still following the whole ideal of evolution by conflict and focus on promoting the behaviour in transhumanity. Im sorta thinking now that you mention it Nezumi (Rat Man of Rokugan?) of the AGI been essentially some fort of fiendish amalgam of The Shadows for B5 and AI GLaDOS !

Another whimsy seed AGI idea, that also creates something new. This one doesn't create new species, virus or bacteria -but new synthetic particles. Perhaps attempting to create Higgins Boson despite their "perhaps" non existance. Or experiment on alternative molecular binding avenues. Its synthetic "new" results may not work well with the genuine structures of the universe. Especially when released upon a paranoid world. The unsuspecting world compensated with its paranoia.

No, my name was derived independently (and is always lower case, as is appropriate for one of my stature :P )

I prefer more alien goals for seed AGI. An AI seeking sensory gratification using unknowing minions with apparently human egos that are actually tiny forks, reporting back their experiences and seeking out what the main fork wants. A PC gets some really strange, specific and irresistible urges (he wants to be covered with blood mixed with pages from a first edition novel, or climb a gothic church steeple while wearing an extremely revealing leather outfit with some odd nanoelectronics), and when Firewall becomes curious they discover that his ego is artificial... Another one is quietly sending off tiny antimatter-powered Orion rockets with nanoassembler payloads to explore the universe with its own Bracewell probes. A third one is setting up its own religion, with an elaborate church hierarchy and many online social network activities that implements a big, slow AGI distributed among the faithful and linked to quantum simulations of something based on the Monster sporadic group. The AGI is intended to become isomorphic with God. Or one that leaves bouquets of nanoreconstructed fossils at every luxury villa it sets ablaze using supertech.

I like AI goals to be reminiscently familiar, while still alien. Sort of like languages, that have evolved apart. Traces still remain & Some words are still the same, others sound familiar and is not. I would looking at what the individuals agenda evolve from; when determining what methods & agenda it would evolve towards. --- The "false positive" When a popular jingle was broadcast with solar wind sounds - Something awoke & started altering scaffolding & isolation materials in structures & Pallasite rich meteorites. To outsiders the actions of this "something" seemed intelligent -and the culprit may be a seed AI or AGI However its a orphan, master-less & non self-aware AI. Its Hypercorp (ceased to be due to The Fall) was involved in estimating solar-wind + radiation & heat preventive construction. Due to undetected injuries & disrepair + expectations of receiving work instructions, the workforce supervisor AI started to interpret variations of solar-wind & Aura Borealis sounds as instructions. Emulated, recorded or real "sounds" of the phenomena, spoof it into action. When not in its artistic remodelling mode, it moves or remains dormant while waiting for "new" instructions. The remodelled results range from benign, ingenious to life threatening. While a not a seed AI (yet)& non-intelligent; As a threat it has a impressive, automated workforce & hired help under its command.
