Calculating Skillsofts

Calculating Skillsofts
The skillware implant can handle 100 points of skillsofts at one time. But how is this 100 points calculated? For an Infolife character with Savvy 10 and skillware, how much of the skillware capacity is used by having the skillsoft Persuasion:40? Possible answers: a) 40 points -- the capacity of skillware used is determined purely by the score of the skillsoft. b) 30 points -- the capacity of skillware used is determined by the score of the skill soft minus the aptitude it is based on (like buying a skill normally). c) 60 points -- like b), except the limitations of the ego are also considered. Thanks for your help in clearing this up.

Re: Calculating Skillsofts
The disadvantage of being an Infolife (Double CP to social skills) only apply during character creation so C is right out. I personally run it as B, the Skillware is only having to handle an increase of 30 so that is the number applied to the point limit. It does not really seem to be particularly clear from Core, so it is probably down to GM Fiat. Perhaps something to consider having an example sidebar in an errata, or at least a clarification from one of the designers.

I am interpreting as A. I think "skill point" is actual rating, not difference between rating and aptitude. For example, Persuasion 40 is rating 40 and take up as 40 of 100-points limit, no matter your Savvy is 10 or 30.

All skillsofts are rated 40, and by your system would then penalize you 40 points. Moreover, it punishes talented characters by forcing them to waste precious skill space where it isn't needed... if I am using a weapon skillsoft to get an extra +5 on my roll, why does it cost me 40 points of potential skillsoft?

Sorry, I am not sure what you mean. Are you taking about skill rating, like "Savvy 30 + Persuasion skillsoft = Persuasion 70"? Or about occupation on skillware, like "Savvy 30 + Persuasion skillsoft = Persuasion 40, but take up only 10 points in skillware capacity"?

The latter is the way that the rules work right now. Skillsofts can not make you more skilled than a 40, so will not enhance you abilities beyond that point, but will also not count as points beyond what they add to your total.

Thank you for clarification. It seems I confused "skill rating" with "skill points". So I think you are right. Thank you!
