Cruising around the system
I was wondering something Egocasting make space travel less a necessity for people transportation. But what about leasure travels? I'm thinking about cruises Two, maybe three exemples in media come to mind -The Fifth Element. Who can forget that huge cruise ship, the Floston Paradise? -Doctor Who: Voyage of the Damned. Actually, that story into unto itself is easy to transpose to EP: A cruise ship is taken over by the Infolife crew, and the passagers are held hostage by their angel looking Synth morphs. But there's another element that's going to throw a monkey wrench in the retaking of the ship. What? I'm not saying, that would ruin the tv special. Allons-y, Alonzo!

Of course, there are plenty of cruise ship-like craft out there. The most common will be trade craft... ships that travel throughout the system trading wares are likely to carry people who wish to tag along for the ride. Then you've got such scum barges as the Carnival of the Goat, which is a traveling freak-show where people can explore the outer limits of body modification. Besides that, it's very likely that the hyperelite and many inner-system locations have cruise craft or habitat craft where people may live. It may actually be more common for the wealthy to live on private craft than in a habitat... spacecrafts are a status symbol.

I didn't mean to live but to go on vacation in/on it Like going from Mars to Venus and back. A trip around Jupiter's moons or Saturn's rings That brings a question to my mind. is there truckers in space in EP verse? People like James Links in his Enders starcraft [img]http://media.paperblog.fr/i/58/585240/zone-of-the-enders-dolores-i-L-1.j... Or like VT and her 'Heavy Metal Queen' space truck in and around the Belt

Another example of a cruise ship Buy n Large (BnL) Axiom of Wall- E - I would think a common ship would be of the "Gatherer" functions. Gathering physical & or non-physical "resources" . Equipped with suitable tools for their gathering (antennas, optics, scoops, nets, etc)

Cruise ship? That's what a scum barge is, only you don't have to pay anything to get onto one.

But their passengers don't have much of a choice, do they? my question was about leasure cruises, not boat people. The welcome these ship would get would be quiet different while I have no doubt the Jovian Republic would send commando against pacific barges and make stupid claims afterward, I believe they would welcome the cruise ships (and the numerous credits of their wealthy passengers)

Actually, I doubt the Jovian Republic would even allow cruise ships. As a paranoid bioconservative state, the people of other nations are probably deigned from coming near at all. They are probably a completely insular group that only allows trade ships (with permission) in, and no outside groups otherwise. Cruise ships to the Jovian Republic would be a huge risk... I'd hate to be the guy who goes to the Jovian Republic for a vacation, and ends up in a gulag prison because I had nanomachines in my bloodstream.

Re: Cruising around the system
"you're found guilty of trafficing highly restricted nanotechnology." "But it's just my medichines prescription to treat my flat's diabetis!" I wonder how big luxerious cruisers would be. Would they dwarf the floating cities we know now in real life? [img]http://www.ladepeche.fr/content/photo/biz/2008/06/20/200806202209_zoom.j... Makes me wonder if the french corp "Club Med" still exist, 10 AF. I could see them organize such cruises and built hollidays bungalow towns on Echo IV and other exoplanets giving their "gentils moniteurs" PR managers Olympian morphs *snorts* 100 years after "Les Bronzés", "Les Bronzés Font Du Ski" and "Les Bronzés 3", the cloned Troupe Du Splendide offers you..."Les Bronzés Dans L'Espace!" *quick shot of a bald man walking in vacsuits, walking on the dunes of Titan, bellowing in the radio "Etoiles des Neiges, pays merveeeeilleeeeeux! tous ceux qui s'aime--eennt vivent à deeeeeuuuuuux!"* (sorry, I just couldn't help myself!)

Of course they do. Scum barges are just like any other anarchist habitat, only mobile and with less of an emphasis on providing for the community and more emphasis on personal hedonism; they're the people who go "We don't have to work for a living anymore, so let's have fun and enjoy life." "Anarchist cruise ship" is exactly how I would describe the typical scum barge.

Not really. See above; "leisure cruise" is an entirely accurate way of describing a trip on a scum barge. "Boat people" is not.

Hmm. They might operate their own cruise ships for their own upper-class people, doing voyages between Jupiter's moons and habitats. I doubt they'd get many visiting cruise ships, though; it's a long trip to Jupiter, so most people would just egocast to a cruise ship already there.

Re: Cruising around the system
Actually, the beings most apt to be "cruising around the system" are Prometheans and TITANs. Think about it. Unless an AGI on that level has a *vast* amount of quantum-entanglement transmission bandwidth, the only way they can be sure of moving themselves from one location to the next with real security is to do so physically. Otherwise, you're pretty much relying on some vastly less capable agent at the far to secure the site and protect your ego, assuming that individual or organization is even under your complete control. (Fellow TITANs and Prometheans wouldn't be.) Hence the need for spaceships that can move computronium, and for Pandora Gates. Honestly, I wonder if the game is even able to model a *beta fork* of one of these beings, much less the full entity. Perhaps the rules will simply say "nigh-omnipotent within these fields of specialization."

The Prometheans are under the protection of Firewall, so chances are that they utilize Firewall resources to travel as they need to. If they are very paranoid, they might egocast a delta fork to the other side in order to oversee the transfer of the seed AI itself, making sure that nothing goes wrong in the process. On the other hand, TITANs have access to technology so far beyond human comprehension, that it almost seems magical in nature. They may be able to traverse the stars in lighthugger fleets, nanoswarm avatars, or even in bodies that you never even though of. I wouldn't be surprised if there are TITANs that have gained so much knowledge in the inner workings of the universe, that they have found a means of gateless jump technology (able to basically create temporary Pandora gates wherever they so desire, which open, close and disappear on both sides). As for modeling them, chances are that they expect you to use them as fiat characters. Much like Power Level X characters in Mutants & Masterminds, or the Lady of Pain, it's best not to stat them out, so that they can do whatever the GM requires them to do for the purpose of the story. Prometheans, TITANs and ETI (in ascending order based on capability)are essentially the gods of the Eclipse Phase universe.
