orbital elevators
While reading a digest of the transhumans settlement on the Dark Cast website, something caught my eye "(...)Olympus Mons, on which the first—and still principle—Martian space elevator was constructed." So this means there is more than one elevator built, doesn't it? how many are in activty by 10 AF? Also, how many elevators are still holding on/around Earth? Such elevators are 40K kilometers long, mass heavy enough to need counter-weight at the top and half-way to keep them steady. If one of them was to fall, it would wrap around the planet, hitting the ground at a sonic speed (precedents shown in Red Mars, and "Zone of the Enders Dolores, i") is there others in Sol? like around Titan? Venus (if connected with a floating city, it'd give a very nice image akin to Gunm/Battle Angel Alita's Zalem)?

Re: orbital elevators
I don't know about other places, but I do know that Earth only has one remaining space elevator that hasn't collapsed. As page 90 and 91 dictate:
Quote:
Earth once had multiple space elevators in operation, but with exception of the Kilimanjaro beanstalk, the others were destroyed during the Fall, wrapping around the planet as they crashed to Earth, leaving swathes of destruction.
Also, if the story in Lack is any indicator, you don't want to visit Kilimanjaro.

I guess that's not a coincidence that the K-beanstalk is still up. The EV infected use it themselves

Probably the reason that whomever put those killsats there did it. I bet that landing a ship on the top of the elevator isn't an option... reaching it probably involves a freefall leap from a big distance.

Re: orbital elevators
I got an idea for a scenario occuring in that station. Nothing really defined yet. a sort of techno-zombie feeling, with feeling of opression, headen menace in a seemingly derelict station, with the whining vibration of the wire echoing between the walls like the complaints of the Beansidhe...
