Some non-English words. What they mean?
Hi, I do like this game, and am translating the Quick Start Rules into Japanese. But I am not sure about some words what they mean. So would you like to shed some light on them? Thank you in advance. Exsurgent(virus): accoding to my googling, it is Latin and means "swell", "rise up" or "extend up". Am I correct? And I googled the word is mentioned in Acts 20:30. Is there some connection between biblical exsurgent and EP one? More concrete descriptions will help. Fa Jing(hypercorp): accoding to my googling, the most famous "fa jing" is a principle concept in Chinese kung fu. Go-nin Group(hypercorp): I am feeling "go-nin" means "five-members". But it might be "a guardian" in old Japanese.

For Exsurgent, I think swell up is an apt translation. Fa Jing and Go-nin are corporate names (Fa Jing being Chinese and Go-nin being Japanese (I think)) so what ever the corresponding Japanese words for each would apply, you don't need to translate them.

Thank you. I feel I understand what "Exsurgent" is. About Fa Jing and Go-nin, though I still want to what they mean, you have a good point there. Indeed, some RL Japanese corps changed their names from kanji to katakana, to adapt globalization. So I'll use katakana about them, at least Sunward book(I figure it will include hypercorp material) is published.

I view exsurgent as a portmanteau of "external insurgency". It's an uprising coming from the outside. Using an online Japanese-English dictionary (so the result might be horribly wrong), perhaps gaibu + bouto to become gaibouto?

"Exsurgent" probably comes from the Latin "ex" (meaning "out of" or "exterior to", which references its alien origin) and the word "surgo", meaning anything that quickly increases or rises (it's the latin source of both "insurgent" and "power surge"). In basic English terms, I would say it translates to "alien plague", which is a perfectly apt label. Since it is Latin, however, chances are that it requires no translation... Latin taxonomy is pretty much universal for science.

Thank you both. I'll try to incorporate "external" aspect in my translation. In the meantime, I forged "蕃患"("ban-kan", if your browser can't read Japanese kanji) word and see whether it works. "ban" means "foreign" in old Japanese and "kan" means "hazard" or "disease". By the way, a namer of "Exsurgent" seems to think it is external origin... well, I should be quiet before too much spoil.

Exsurgent is basically referencing a growing threat from a hidden outside force. It might be difficult to translate effectively into another language.
