Ghost in the shell?
Ok, I think it's safe to say that the main face of "transhumanism" for most people is the "ghost in the shell" universe, and I was wondering if it would be possible to run GitS style adventures in the EP universe? Is it close enough to GitS to use the same themes and memes? Could someone give me an idea of what it's like in re to GitS, basically is it like "GitS, with an emphasis on early space travel and some alien contacts" or something like that? Since there's no official GitS RPG system yet, could someone wanting to run a GitS campaign use EP as a system, and is the hardware in it compatible with a GitS setting? You know, this could be helpful to EP, since a lot of people into transhumanism are nto GitS maybe explaining EP in GitS terms, or even Shirow's other greag work, "Apleseed", mgiht help attract some players, so if you want to help EP grow you might consider ways to relate it to GitS and appleseed, and if the game's any good I hope this suggestion helps it.

You could certainly use EP

You could certainly use EP to run a GitS setting campaign, it wouldn't take much. EP has rules for cyberbrain hacking, androids, wireless mesh interaction, spider-like robots, etc. In fact, this is the sort of thing we'd love to see someone write up and post under the Creative Commons license!

In terms of comparing EP and GitS -- well, they're pretty different settings. GitS is focused in one locale on Earth, and is primarily political espionage and crime and terrorism plots, whereas in EP Earth is ruined so everything takes place elsewhere in the solar system and the technology is a bit more advanced (nano, uploading, etc).

Re: Ghost in the shell?
I am thinking about moving forward with this idea as setting for one of the groups I am involved with. Taking the GiTS as a starting point and using EP for a near-future earth-based setting, what 'tweaks' would you consider for Factions and background? By tweaks I mean: would you rename them, drop them, replace them? Maybe: Cop, Military, scientist, hacker, or what ever. Thoughts?

I'm not sure if this helps you but I did once create a character based on Motoko, which includes the morph enhancements, aptitudes, gear, skills, etc. of a person like her or in the same settings. Worst case scenario you could use the mods in the morph as a package available?

Re: Ghost in the shell?
I'm starting an EP game in a week or two. None of my players have read the source material. The basic set up is
Spoiler: Highlight to view
A proxy got burned politically and there team was killed off. Needing new sentinals, and not know who to trust she finds a report that there was a team of shadow runners put on cryo around BF 15. See goes down and wakes them up.
The great thing about this my players have no idea what's going in the world just like there characters. Also They can character creation without any knowledge of the system. I told them role up anybody character they wanted from a GitS setting. They can have any ware they want, it's all going to rot on earth because they are ego-casting out of the gravity well. ---- To comment more directly on the setting differences though. GitS has a noir feel I don't see in EP. GitS is about a world falling a part, and the meaninglessness of action in the face epidemic existentialism. EP is about a world coming together. Transhumanity a collection of shell shocked survivors, but they survived. Also so the horror angle is very different. In GitS ghost dubbing is morally reprehensible deeply unnerving, are takes a facility. In EP, white collar workers fork themselves when the deadlines are coming-up fast. More generally while the tech-levels are about the same in each setting. Social codes are much more acclimatize to the tech
