Hey! Hopefully these aren't dumb questions but I'm already a bit overwhelmed with the amount of information to take on board. I picked up 2nd edition and made a test character and encountered many questions.
What are the Ware Types? Various gear tables include the header but I've not seen any info on definitions for the characters that appear there? Like Eelware's BCH (maybe Bioware, Countermeasure, Hardware?)
Also I think I chose the hard route trying to throw together a drone controller informorph for my test character. They start with a Drone Rig, Radio Booster, and Gray Box but I don't know how an infomorph would make use of physical hardware in the field? Possibly while jamming a bot or giving it to your friends?
If I took the Drone Affinity trait, can I swap out the Drone Rig for something of equal value? I think they do the same thing.
As for bots, I just went with the ones provided in the firewall kit (Gnat/Guardian Angel), I see they have Bot AI ware (I assume they're ALI) but I couldn't find the aptitudes? I just went with 10's for the aptitudes as suggested elsewhere in the forum.
Are Muse aptitudes not included in the book? Or just 10 like I saw someone suggest?
Does the Guardian Angel come with a weapon besides Eelware? They have a weapon mount but I guess you have to purchase them a separate weapon?
If you use the Eelware does it require time to recharge between zaps or can you use it round to round? Does it have a limited number of charges? I guess the table would say if it does.
Do informorphs have a movement rate? I guessed not since they're in the mesh but wasn't sure.
How do you keep track of what all the masses of ware in the bots and your morph do? Is it just a matter of writing it all out and keeping it to hand? I wondered if I was missing something, but even using the eldaniello sheets there's so much to track. God forbid I ever resleeve, despite it being something you're supposed to do regularly - then doing it for 4 people at once... that's crazy.
Sorry it's a bit long! It was all going so smoothly until I hit Step 12 and I had to dive way deep into the book and kept being unable to find information, or it was scattered across several sections. It must be hard to organise so much info, but wow this was tough!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Klaus

The people here are usually quite helpful. We don't mind helping you.
Eclipse Phase can be a lot to take in, so don't feel bad if you need to slow down to figure something out.
Wares come in different forms. Bioware, Cyberware, Hardware, Nanoware, Meshware. They are explained on p. 311.
Using physical gear is hard without a morph or drone.
Using drones gives you -10 mod to all actions. You can also fail the integration test and suffer another -10 mod (for a total of -20). Having both drone affinity and drone rig will solve these problems.
ALIs normally have an aptitude of 10. The muse has an INT aptitude of 15 (go look at the sample character sheet on p. 432). I know, its not an easy find.
Yeah, you will likely have to buy your drones some weapons.
Reading the description of eelware, I don't get the impression there is a limit to how much you can use it.
No. They are not physical things. They can move from 1 device to another as transmitted data.

Whew! Thanks so much for the
Whew! Thanks so much for the detailed response! It's much appreciated!
Also just to clarify - how would an infomorph use the Drone Rig, Radio Booster, and Gray Box?
My impression is that your allies take them, you use the Grey Box to ensure a stealth wireless mesh link is locally available, then you use that to find and jam one of the bots you want to use as your presence, you network to the Drone Rig to help you jam the bot, and you'd use the radio booster to increase the range you can act in?
Also while jamming do you use the bot's skills for things like firing weapons and flying around? I imagine the bot AI is inactive while you're in control so maybe not, but then you aren't sleeved into it... so I'm unsure.

Well, a Drone Rig can be meshware. You can take meshware, software, and files with you when you move from one device to another.
Yeah, your team mates can use the Radio Booster and Grey Box. Radio Boosters don't get much use inside habitats. The mesh is available in most places. The Grey Box is intended to add a wireless back door to systems that don't have wi-fi for security reasons.
You could trade the Radio Booster and other stuff for something else. The gear lists are recommendations.
You use your own skills. The active skills of ALIs cap at 40, but they may have one active skill at 60. Their know skills cap at 80. They can also get specializations to bypass this limit a little.
Knowing this, you wouldn't want to the bot to do any important stuff when your skills can be so much higher.
I'm getting the impression that infomorphs might not be for you. They can be hard to play lacking a physical body and all. Especially for first time players.

Ahh I see, thank you for
Ahh I see, thank you for clarifying - also I'm actually not playing myself, but getting to grips with everything so I can run the game haha.
I think I should really just finish reading the whole book through - though I don't think anyone in the one-shot will be playing an infomorph thankfully! It's all quite fascinating, and I'm sure I just need to get a better grip on the basics.
I was actually trying to make a hacker character with jammer as a hobby. The infomorph choice came in at step 13 at the last minute but it seems like being an infomorph requires much more forethought and experience.
