(NSFW) Cards Against Humanity: Eclipse Phase addition
I couldn't find any forum rules regarding NSFW topics, so forgive me if I'm doing something wrong before adding and tags/moving this topic. Anyway. I figured a game as good as cards against humanity would still survive in the 22nd century, and started to think of some carda. Then I realized CAH has lots of topical humour, and we're only given glimpses into the post fall life. So I figured it should be scaled back to a simple explanation pack that anyone can use when the GM can't play that week. So in this thread we'll provide ideas for both white and black cards. I'll start, but I won't go into any NSFW territory until I get the ok from a mod. Black cards: Why is my Rep taking a hit? I only made a post about __________ Of all the X-Risks in the universe, the most dangerous by far is __________ I used to think __________ was the best path for transhumanity to progress down, but then I witnessed __________ What did Pivo find while scavenging around Earth's orbit? I know how to stop the TITANs, but it's going to involve __________ I need to this psycosurgery, man! I need to forget __________ What's in the Scrach Space? White cards: The Jovian Republic. The Clanking Mass revolt was stopped dead in its tracks because of ______. A Jovian diplomat disappeared on Locus, he was last seen with _____ and _____ in his possession. The resleeving tech was freaked out when one of the new arrivals started blubbering about ____. During the days of the fall, the TITANs spared a group of humans because of _____. My insurance company cancelled my resleeving policy; I guess I shouldn't have tried to mix _____ with _____ in the last morph. White Cards: Finding a morph in the disassemblers. An Oligarch in a neotenic. An ASI, only stupid. The Venusian Surface (AKA Hell's shittier sister-city) Mercurials. A concussed human in a parrot morph. Hellball anal beads. Neotenic traps

Neotenic traps
May I ask what this means?
Laskeutua Laskeutua's picture
Trap is a common internet
Trap is a common internet slang term for crossdressing males, especially effeminate ones that pass seamlessly as women. That's a simplified explanation I'll admit, it actually has nuances of non-traditional gender roles. For the purposes of your question however, it's been used as an aesthetic term: the phrase refers to a neotenic that would appear female in all the morph's secondary and tertiary characteristics, but it possesses a male biological sex. It does often get used in broader terms to describe someone a little less binary on the gender spectrum (I've even seen it as a self-identified term from people in genderqueer camps) but it ALWAYS refers to a feminine identity that ALWAYS possesses male genitalia. Essentially from a hetrosexual male perspective: a Trap. To those first hearing it, the term can sound pejorative, but I've never actually heard it used that way. Instead I've only ever heard the term used in the context of desirability (often sexual desirability - as an otherwise completely heterosexual friend of mind put it 'if she's hot enough, I won't care'). it's surprising actually how popular and idealised the concept is, but perhaps this is simply due to the people I've associated with. It sprang up around Anime fandom specifically and has actually been met with overwhelming acceptance - turns out if the character is likable and sympathetic, audiences will flat out accept non-traditional ideas regarding identity that the character represents. A pretty powerful statement on the impact of art on how people shape their ideas when you think about it. One thing of note, the 'Trap' archetype is always comfortable in the gender role they're expressing and rarely even consider what others may think of their choices. They are who they are - simple as that. It does have a counterpart in the concept of a 'reverse trap', which is similar to tomboy archetypes but again, slightly more nuance about non-traditional gender roles - business suits and short back-and-sides hair is common. Again, I often see the term thrown around when people want to see more characters of this archetype in their entertainment (or, given some of the people I know, their porn), never as pejorative.

I suspect the etymology is
I suspect the etymology is 4chan memes. Someone posts a picture of an attractive anime character, someone replies "I'd tap that" and a second reply is a picture like this: http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/176/files/2013/02/Admiral-A... Once this image falls off the web, just do an image search for [ackbar it's a trap] and you'll find thousands of mirrors.

I'm back
So the other day I got the inspiration to make more cards and I wanted to share them. I'm also archiving the suggestions in this thread cause they're good. :) BLACK CARDS: Let me get this straight. You spent the entire server’s resources on _____? The gatecrashing op was a disaster. The whole team was attacked by _____. I barely made it out alive. Dude! You gotta try these new petals. They got _____ and _____. My cell just got some important intel. As it turns out, _____ is actually _____ from the beginning. The best part about our transhuman future is _____. Ok everyone. We're facing a new X-risk, and it's like nothing we've seen before. _____. The Argonauts have discovered a new gate address that leads to _____. WHITE CARDS: Complaining about Jovian fluff. /epg/ Incest. But my sister's in a different morph so it's cool. A sexy, sexy exsurgent. Getting fingered by a fractal troll. Asyncs. Forking because no one will ever love you. Teaching the TITANs about love. An O’Neill cylinder shaped like a dick. Jovian/Scum sex. Make love not war. Celebrating your autonomy to forget how poor you are compared to the Inner System. A fury as a dominatrix. Jacking it to exps of headhunter raids during the Fall. Getting raped by a factor gestalt… and kinda liking it. Fred the Friendly Fractal.

Speaking as a member of the trans community
The term trap. It's offensive. It's offensive because it comes with the presupposition that trans women are attempting to trick heterosexual cis males into having sex with them. This charming notion is, in part, the basis for the "trans panic" defense. @Laskeutua, I can see where you're coming from but I respectively disagree with you.
At least with Lovecraft, nobody pretends the gods are nice. And wherever you end up, there is guaranteed to be tentacles.

I hope this doesn't end up as a heated debate, especially since that might get me banned. With that in mind, I'd like to provide alternate points of view on the subject. Feel free to disagree, but hear me out. Firstly, while the term probably is offensive to trans people, keep in mind that Cards Against Humanity refers to itself as a "party game for horrible people". It's founded on the bases of offensive humor. To that extent, when they apologized for trans jokes in their cards I was personally disappointed. As a Canadian, I grew up believing that inclusion is important, even in comedy. This is why Canadians love our portrayal in South Park; because we're actually being included. For me personally, being unable to joke about a group means they aren't a part of my society; that they are not relatable or "like us". In simple terms, I think avoiding trans joke excludes and discriminates against them as a whole. As for the meaning of trap, I honestly didn't know, nor do I think that that's what it specifically implies. You're probably right about the origin of the slang, but it's meaning and context can and has changed over time. When I think of the word "trap" I don't think "trans person trying to trick me into sex", instead I think "very convincing crossdresser". Gender identity or sexual intent isn't what comes to my mind. This meaning comes from anime circles (where I first heard the word) where androgyny is used as a tool of comedy; leading to awkward or uncomfortable situations. So when I decided to add that, I did not have the intent to target the trans community. If you want to remove the card from your own deck, then I will respect that. However I personally cannot remove it in my own games as that would go against my morals and philosophy on the topic of offense.

It's not offensive: It's
It's not offensive: It's hurtful. And yes. It is hurtful to members of this specific online community right here, who have otherwise remained quiet on this topic. There is a reason the CAH designer himself regrets specific cards from the first edition. https://www.buzzfeed.com/rachelzarrell/theres-one-cards-against-humanity... Trap's origin, while it is from anime, also does include the sexual predator overtone: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/traps Yes things change over time, of course they do - language does that. But at this point, the language has changes to make this joke one that normalizes harmful beliefs that lead to assaults and the attackers later getting declared innocent on account of "it was a trap!", because that makes it the victims fault the attack occured. This has become a very *successful* legal defense tactic. See: https://lgbtbar.org/what-we-do/programs/gay-and-trans-panic-defense/ Being included by being reminded that your existence is tolerated only so long as you're a joke at the cost of your personal dignity and very literally at the cost of your physical safety - isn't inclusion. As far as this goes re - comedy: I promise I have a sense of humor. The problem is the joke isn't funny. Comedy is a fragile and delicate thing. There are a number of theories around it. The most relevant one to consider here is this: Benign Violation Theory - http://leeds-faculty.colorado.edu/mcgrawp/Benign_Violation_Theory.html "humor occurs when and only when three conditions are satisfied: (1) a situation is a violation, (2) the situation is benign, and (3) both perceptions occur simultaneously" Racist / sexist / etc, shock humor violates our sense of how the world work–in either a “that’s not true!” or “you’re not allowed to say that!” way. Which violates norms, meeting requirement #1. In order to find the violation of norms funny - you have to also find it benign. Which is to say either you think it’s harmless or you don’t care about the people it harms. This is what punching up not down is *about*. It is possible to joke about and with a group without punching down, it's just much harder to do and takes some skill and thought. ( See Brooklyn 99 for some excellent examples. ) I'm hoping this will give you a lot more understanding on the difficulties of writing jokes like this. Sure, they may work for your home group, but this isn't home and there's lurkers here that have had this directly impact their lives. I don't see a reason yet for this to boil up or anyone to get banned. Everyone has this conversation at some point in their lives, or something very much like it on any number of topics. I'm looking at this as a chance to be a half of the XKCD Lucky 10k: https://xkcd.com/1053/ So I'm hoping you'll take the same approach. :P
I fix broken things. If you need something fixed, mention it on the suggestions board. I also sometimes speak as website administrator and/ moderator.

So, first, thanks for keeping this civil, especially for such a touchy topic. I fear banning because before making an account here I discussed EP on *chans where the devs are painted as unable to accept other ideologies on their site, the fact that one of the devs admitted to supporting a domestic terror group reinforces this belief of mine. Next I'd like to ask what you think the difference between offensive and hurtful are. I've always seen them used interchangeably. As for everything else, the TL;DR is agree to disagree. But if you care enough to understand where I'm coming from, read on. My general outlook on the world is a mixture of Douism, Absurdism, and Nihilism. I don't have a word for it because I honestly don't care enough to come up with a label. Anyways I think the universe is indifferent to us, and how much suffering exists in our lives all depend on how we choose to see it. To that extent, I refuse to be emotionally damaged, but instead try to see the beauty in everything. I genuinely believe happiness is a personal choice; people choose to let things get to them. As for the Benign Violation Theory, I've had to learn to adopt the violation of norms in all forms as funny if I wanted to maintain a positive AND realistic outlook on life. Much like the Joker, I see life as a cosmic joke where nothing really matters. But rather than being destructive and psychopathic about it, I decide to go along with it; to enjoy it at all it's turns. If you made it this far, than all I can say is I hope it was worth your time to learn about some random stranger on the internet.

I'll chalk my understanding
I'll chalk my understanding to the company I keep then, as generally I'm surrounded by people with pitch black senses of humour and a penchant for finding the strangest things to use as a badge of honour. I suppose part of me should have known that I had an incomplete understanding, I've learnt since I made that post that the friends I have who land squarely in queer camps have views that... aren't all that representative of any wider community. The event that taught me that one was a pretty vicious argument triggered from the fact that one of my friends, who is an extremely out and proud lesbian, likes referring to herself as a 'dyke'. The person she was arguing with wishes the word to disappear and quietly die in the corner. So I'm... in a strange position in light of what I know/don't know, and my general response to moments of indecision like that is to simply walk away before I dig my own hole deeper. So yeah, I did not mean any offense with what I posted, and apologies if anyone had taken offense, it was just what I understood to be true at the time.
