Mash-up, destroying canon.

Have you thought anytime about to change radically the canon background to mix your favorite franchises? For example a galaxy with all alien races from Star Wars, Star Treck, Andromeda, Farscape, Stargate SG-1, Doctor Who, Babylon 5, Earth: Final Conflict, the invaders, V, Falling Skies, Firefly, First Wave, UFO, Colony, Defiance, Starship Troopers, Mass Effect, Halo, Destiny, Dead Space, System Shock, Deux Ex, D&D Spelljammer, d20 Future(Star*Drive + Star Frontiers + Gamma World + Dark*Matters), Fading Suns, Warhammer 40.000, Shadowrun, Starcraft, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, DC and marvel comics universes... What about mixing backgrounds from "Eclipse Phase" and "Chulhutech"? Other idea is adding supernatural elements to cause surprise and playing with ambiguty. Are those strange beings from the lost spaceship incorporeal alien creatures, or really ghosts of the original crew? Is that man really fool or a true cursed werewolf-like creature? Or adding the "supernatural factions" from "Kult: lost divinity". It would be like a mixture of Doom videogame, Event Horizon(movie), Hellraiser: Bloodline(Pinhead in the space), Clave Baker's Jericho (videogame), Dead Space, System Shock videogames, Bioshock, X-Files and Lovecraft's myths. (But adding step by step, insinuating more than showing).

Mass Effect Eclipse Phase was always a favourite of mine

The ME/EP cross over that (IIRC) /tg did was interesting, they did stories rather than rules, but the concept of the TITANS using a Mass Relay rather than the Pandora Gates, and thus the races of the Citadel found the Sol System, the Council Races reaction to Transhumans was always debated, both in and out of story, the clash of cultures and techs is interesting, with the true FTL capable council having ships to break transhumans minds but the Transhumans ground game (so to speak) and ability to have a soldier be back in action hours after 'death' something the Council has no experience with, more and more implications and conflicts pile up, and then come the Reapers....

Other option can be to play

Other option can be to play with other rules, and the players don't know the Game Master is using some ideas from the EP's background. For example the players think something like an "innocent" young literature title(R.L.Stine's Goodsebumps + Stranger Things + Rosswell High). Then "aliens" are discoverd, aliens with a past like EP. Then the earthlings discover most "aliens" really are friendly, but anyones aren't so good (agents of hypercorporations or brainwashed puppets). A mixture of Alien Nation, V, Falling Skies and the invaders. * Other reason is to change the style, from "space horror" to "epic action". For example tranhumanity find a new alien technoliving creatures, new allies with a nickname "transfomers autobots", who can face exurgent virus because the suffered in the past until getting immunity or they discovered a cure for their techo-biological bodies.

Rifts RPG never was published in my land. * To mix all the backgrounds may be confusing, but we can start with a "blank page" and step by step adding clues about the "great mistery". Now my main idea is about a portal towars a Uchrony or parallel Earth, something like 50's years, in the middle of XX century. I want to imagine the PCs like the alien visitors, and they find a society with other ideas, lower tech. Let's guess there aren't troubles about time paradoxes because they are a different space-time line, and you are totally free to change the past, because it isn't their past. Would the PCs dare to tell they are from an alternate future where the Earth was destroyed by the rebellion of the super-computers? * What do you think about the effect "Superman17"? (in the 17th comic of Superman Hitler is arrested and sent to UN, he had avoided the IIWW). What if the characters could change the History?

For example a solar system with a Dyson sphere where they are "clone worlds" of all the previous civilitations destroyed by the ETI, * Or a mixture of EP and the future "space fantasy" RPG being created by posthuman studios. * Or a timeline where Earth was saved by the factors and some other alien visitor (from outer galaxy) just before the rebellion of the TITANs. Or at least offering a cure for exurgent virus. * Or a planar gate toward a XIX century Earth who is also visited by an alternate future transhumanity who offer eco-love technology. How would be the cultural impact between the three civiliations? * Or visiting a planet whose biosphere has developep natural resistance againts local exurgent strains because the fall of civiliation happened 10.000 ago. * Or the fall was avoided, or delayed because a ETI rebel subfaction is infiltrated among transhumanity and now the TITANs have got a different goal, or plan? * Or the transhumanity is saved by the "tomorrow people", transhumans with psionic powers to detect and heal exurgent strains, but these saviors become religous or revolutionary leaders, maybe too proud. * or transhumanity discover a strange machine, like a ultimate simulation to see the past (chronovisor?), and teorically the past isn't changed, but for example a character's life is saved (for example a old lover), and later that same character may appears in the real life, or the files with DNA samples can be used to clone and recover lost species from Earth.
