Hi y'all, I have some questions
So, usually there's an introduction forum, but since there isn't I guess I'll just do it here. I tried to get on to this forum months ago, but no confirmation E-mail was sent. I tried doing a few things to no avail, so I went to the Eclipse Phase General thread on 4chan's /tg/ board. They certainly have a lot of interesting things to say about this forum, but I didn't start GMing this game because of petty political and ideological reasons. I came here because I love the game. So again, hi. Anyways, I have a few questions. I tried to ask the EP twitter about 2 days ago, but no replies, /EPG/ didn't give any concrete answers either. My first set of questions concerns the Boulba module for Flexbots. This is a very unique morph, yet it's only described in 2 sentences. How does it actually work? It never explains how the mechanical inner parts connect with the outer skin along with the properties in it. I just imagine a big water balloon. Then there's the fact that it can't form different mobility systems. Since that means it can't have legs, does that also mean it can't have arms? Can they use fine manipulation? Then I found out that the Bouba doesn't have shape adjustment, despite that being a prerequisite for the squishbot enhancement. Is that some kind of error? Because it clearly breaks the rules laid out for it, I haven't done the math about the morph's CP cost either, so I'm in the dark. After telling my party about the whole shape adjustment thing, one of them mentioned that other morphs break the rules of their gear as well. The example given are Skulker type Swarmanoids, they have radar invisibility despite that enhancement not being listed in the ones they're allowed to have. Anyone able to help? Thanks.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy
Welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay. :) I find that not every morph follows the rules. I find that sometimes its best to take the rules as a recommendation. Bouba. Yeah, it should have shape adjusting augment. I don't know why it does not. Maybe the devs forgot their own rules. I'm not really sure what it can do without it. Most of the squishbot features improve upon shape adjusting. I've done the CP math on the Bouba. Its barely under 10 CP. Adding shape adjusting pushes it over 10 CP. Maybe the devs tried too hard to make it 10 CP and removed something important. I don't know how the squishbot works. Its a mystery to me as well. Where does it say that Skulker can't have Radar Invisibility? I can't find it.

The Skulker can't have RADAR
The Skulker can't have RADAR invisibility because it's not on the list of allowed swarmanoid robotic enhancements on page 213 of Transhuman. The Blackbird also breaks some rules, having Invisibility and Reduced Signature, which are incompatible (which doesn't make sense to me). I think the squishbot is something like these but built up to a more Eclipse Phase level of technology: http://www.bostondynamics.com/robot_squishbot.html http://web.mit.edu/mobility/research/squishbot.html Essentially a robot made from advanced smart fluids and gels which can radically alter its shape. Basically a giant slug/amoeba/T1000 It's worth noting that nothing besides the Bouba description prevents a squishbot from forming whatever it wants. Just slap the [Expensive] upgrade on a Yeoman for full capabilities. Personally, I'd just give the Bouba shape adjusting and let it form new mobility systems (within reasons, Rotor or tracked don't make sense to me). It's already kind of a lame 'bot because it lacks fractal digits/vision.

I find it hard to understand why blackbirds can't have Invisibility and Reduced Signature. There's no physical reason I can think of why they can't work. Though I winder if these rules only apply to aftermarket enhancements.

Maybe it's a balance thing?

Flexbots are confusing in
Flexbots are confusing in general. They make sense for a thing like that ti exist. I find it hard to conceptualize, and I dont think the morph rules are fluid enough to really do anything neat with flexbots. Like being able to eject damage modules and reduce Damage to you overall. Thats a lot of table math to do during combat, with readjusting your overall DUR, stats, and possible lost mods. And damage isnt tracked on the body. Its abstracted, as bodily stress. So I guess the GM and player agree which body part is fucked up? It just sounds like a pain in the ass, that I havent needed to deal with yet.
