Share your Character Concepts
If you are like me, you often have ideas for characters that you don't have time to play and/or stat out. Feel free to share such ideas here. I'll start you off when one I am planning to stat out and find a game for.
Quote:
Concept: Oh So Many Arms. Name pending: Lu Thu Cu Octomorph Uplift Profession: Smart Material Specialist. Makes his living making smart material blueprints for clothes, buildings, and art. If something doesn't sell, he makes it Open Source. Hobbies: Thrillseeking and XP Production. Bounty Hunting. Primary Ego Stats: COO and COG. Noteable Skills: Programming (Smart Material), Blades, Spray Weapons, Unarmed. Noteable Traits: LOTS of Ambidextrous, Eidetic Memory, Possibly Heightened Instinct/Killer Instinct/Predator, Has a blueprint for Smart Manipulators. He is not comfortable in a body with only 2 'arms'. He has customized the smart manipulators with camouflage so that he can use it to speak color language. Other morphs he has been known to use: Takko, Flying Squid, Infolife (controlling smart manipulators on host's body), Nautiloid.
See what I did, just a simple concept to share. How about you try? Now excuse me as I buy books released after transhuman. So much I have missed.
Favorite Item in Eclipse Phase: Smart Manipulators

Psinautaloid
Not so much a character concept as just an exercise in amusing myself with what is possible: Name: Never really gave him one. He probably would not use the name Psinautaloid. Emergent AGI Profession: Hacker/Drone Pilot/Support Specialist/Spaceship Hobbies: Learning about humanity Primary Ego Stats: COG and INT Notable Skills: Piloting, Flying, Infosec, and Medical Notable Traits: PSI abilities. Primary morph is a modified nautaloid with a brain box. An emergent AGI that was created as a result of an Argonaut experiment in creating a medical AI system. Unknowingly transferred into a biomorph that was infected with Watts-MacLeod while trying to experience humanity. Ego pattern was corrupted by Watts-MacLeod resulting in a reluctance to transfer into any more biomorphs or pods and requiring the presence of brain boxes in all morphs. Will often remote jam a blackbird or synth when required to deal with people in locations where its nautaloid body would be detrimental.
My artificially intelligent spaceship is psychic. Your argument it invalid.

Establishing battlefield control, standby
Concept: C3I/EW Examples: Nexus, EVA, CABAL Morph: Infomorph (AGI, high-speed eidolon such as Wirehead) Role: Hacker/drone rigger Likely professions: Security services, police, info broker, hacker-for-hire. Designed to quickly breach and seize control of computer networks, and command multiple combat drones (either assigned, printed, or hijacked) to establish electronic superiority in the battlespace. Probably fell off the back of a truck somewhere in Extropia, copyright date may be pre-fall. Equipment: library of hacking software (exploits, spoofer, veil, scripts, etc.), blueprints for whichever drones you'd like to have on-demand, multitasking augs, ICE/security programs. Primary attributes: COG and REF Notable skills: Programming, Infosec, Interface, Pilot, Gunnery, Research. Traits: don't have the book handy, but that one that boosts brute-force attacks will likely be useful, along with something to ease forking/merging if you want to mess with that. On the negative side, likely sensitivity to pain and general discomfort with being sleeved in a biomorph (since such an AGI will never use one if they can help it, too slow). The character is highly specialized in a narrow skill set, but due to that set's broad applications it can be useful to a wide variety of parties. Play with care though, as the character's unconventional style can sometimes make other players uncomfortable (especially bioconservatives) and abusing a multitasking drone fleet too heavily can invoke the wrath of the GM.
End of line.

The first thing I thought
The first thing I thought about when I read Eclipse Phase was trying to replicate the Hacker from System Shock, which seemed like it would fit right in as a thing that could happen during the Fall. I was also playing around with some of Eclipse Phase' more idiosyncratic setting elements, and thought about making a blue-collar poet from the clanking masses on Luna. Just someone without much in the way of useful (corporate) skills, sleeved in a case or pod or something and working menial labor, writes subversive poetry or some other art pursuit with their spare cycles, and ended up getting a bit of underground notoriety and becoming a small meta-celebrity.

Dragon
Concept: Pseudo-anonymous Weapons Designer Name: Konstantin Volkov Profession: Autonomist Mechanical Engineer Hobbies: Weapon Designer Primary Ego Stats: COG and INT Notable Skills: Hardware: Robots, Hardware: Spacecraft, Hardware: Firearms, Infosec, Networking: Autonomists Notable Traits: Excellent mechanical engineer. Dragon is actually two separate identities. As Konstantin Volkov he is a relatively unknown but skilled mechanical engineer. If you were to mention Konstantin Volkov to most Autonomists they would have to conduct a Mesh search. On the Mesh he has the additional identity of Dragon, the famous but anonymous designer for Dragon Arms. He is not totally anonymous as there are trusted individuals who know his identity but the 'true' identity of Dragon is not a matter of public record. Dragon Arms are widely known for their attention to reliability and manufacturing. Dragon Arms guns are usually designed to be constructed with minimal requirements for expensive feedstocks, making more use of carbon-fiber reinforced polymers and the like and with looser engineering tolerances than higher end firearms. While this does result in a slight degradation of performance over the higher end designs the design allows faster fabrication due to larger volume blocks (or whatever the nanofabrication equivalent of a 'pixel' is in your campaign) and combined with the use of less expensive feedstock results in significantly less expensive weapons. The weapons are highly robust, however. Most of the performance degradation tends to take effect in rates of fire and slight reductions in accuracy. Examples of Dragon Arm weapons include several revolvers, breach loaded shotguns, and bolt action rifles. It should be noted that while these weapons use design principles in use today they are still adapted for the world of Eclipse Phase. As an example the revolver designs use caseless ammunition that is electronically triggered. While individual rounds can be loaded into the revolver it is designed to accept a group of bullets connected together in a fashion similar to a modern speedloader. There are also Dragon Arm blueprints for fully and semi-automatic weapons but in all cases the desire for a robust design usually means some compromises in firing modes (an assault rifle design may be limited to semi-automatic and burst fire as an example).

I have a character concept,
I have a character concept, inspired by WtNV of all things, of an emergent AGI that was a numbers station turned cryptographer, SIGINT specialist, that defected from terrestrial politics, then ended up working with TCFI and the like. I will have to go dig up the character notes, one of my favorite concepts that I have never gotten to play ("always the GM, never the player" as they say).
Exhuman, and Humanitarian.

A scum dweller chemist type
A scum dweller chemist type who loves using a sprayer with all the best toxins, and whom is also an animal handler with a smart dog named Scoob. Otherwise, I have my Thuggee that I have yet to get to play in a game. He only uses Freezers, Clubs, and garottes. He has no formal education, but has been trained by his Jemedar to identify the valuables, insert himself with the people holding them, kill them all bloodlessly, and then abscond with the swag.

Lab Rat
Name: Thomas Harley Concept: Mr. Fixit. Specializes in "fixing" things. Psychology and psychosurgery to fix minds, nearly every Hardware skill to fix machines, programming and infosec to fix software, a smattering of medical skills for mending bodies, with various stuff like Academics: Nanotech and Profession: Biologist to support them, all of which he honed aboard the scum fleet due to their extremely diverse nature. Of course, this means he can break them just as well, but still. Not much in the way of combat except enough for self defense. Otherwise he's an intellectual powerhouse, so he carries various weapons to support the more combat-oriented characters. Stuff like stunbombs, armor-eating disassembler sprays, dehabilitating nanodrugs, etc. Nothing's funnier than watching a guard chase after their disembodied hand and slam into a wall so hard they knock themselves out. So, a Scum who spent quite a long time among the Carnival of the Goat. Originally from Mars, he hooked up during one of their shows and worked as one of their deck-hands, essentially. Fixing synths, growing biomorphs and pods in the vats, helping to facilitate their ego-merging, multi-ego cohabitation stuff, etc, and designing a body he planned to use once it was ready, paying for it with his service to the swarm. Due to the carnival's diversity and extreme morphological freedom, he picked up a few ideas along the way, ending up with a scurrier morph with a few alterations, namely a kind of very elastic air-bladder enhancement that could be filled with lighter than air gasses to allow it to glide further distances in higher gravity. I mean, sure, the other medtechs decided to screw with him by wiring a bit of a pleasure response through it as a joke, but you won't hear him complaining. Not enough for anything sexual or addictive, just a little something pleasant, like when you eat a really good meal and think back on the memory for the next few hours. Eventually a rather...puritanical group decided to knock them down a peg, assaulting their body factory and basically mass-murdering as many people as they could to send a message, and he was one of the casualties, slapped into the body he had helped to grow. Didn't mind all that much since he had been planning on sleeving into it a few months later anyway, it was just accelerated ahead of schedule. Left him a tad pissed, as well as giving him the Enemy flaw for that group. Main and above-all favorite piece of equipment is his Smart Pack. That thing's so useful for mitigating the fact that he's basically the size of a toddler.

Biocon Proxy
Concept: Biocon Proxy Name: Mary Mayhem Intrest: Collecting Pre-Fall items, mostly music related Pet: Space roach Feature: wearing glasses Biocon but using lots of tech. Mary is living in her small shuttle which fits a small ground vehicle (a buggy) and her hammok. It is a very messy place crowded with all kinds of very rare pre-fall items. She will often send agents out on her "personal" missions. The first mission was actualy to steal an LP from the freighter of her arch enemy. Since on of my players killed the guy and brought his stack back home, she now keeps his ego as a hologram in a jar.

I love this character
King Luey is a showbiz personality who is also a major producer in the adult entertainment industry. Abandoning his original bonobo morph in favor of a rather human looking chimp, he styles himself after the late George Burns, doing comedy gigs at burlesque parlors and introducing people to showbiz celebs. He generally has a soft spot for young girls down on their luck and knows when a girl has gotten herself too deep. He has brokered a number of deals between prostitution rings and crime cartels in order to get a working girl back to her family after she'd been "caught up in showbiz", but also knows quite a few adult film stars who are quite happy with their work. He tends to play up the "dirty old man" shtick, wearing hornrim glasses, huge eyebrows and a tuxedo, all the while chomping on a huge cigar. He sometimes introduces himself by grabbing peoples junk and mimicking a firm handshake while saying, "Hey there, how ya doing?" He is often seen at parties with a couple of floozies sitting on his lap, while making small talk with celbrities before attending charity functions. His muse, bubbles, is styled after a ditzy blond secretary from New Jersey and constantly berates him and acts jealous. He first became invovled with firewall when he called attention to several human trafficking operations by talking to a newsfeed reporter "off the record." In his own words, he said, "It sickens me!" and continued by saying he prefers his operations "classy and above board, with all the cards laid out on the table." He is a genuinely nice guy, hes started many careers and has a knack for showbusiness, but if you get on his bad side you might find yourself blacklisted or on a bus out of Elysium.

Concept: Lucio Versace von Frankenstein. Name pending: Hadrian Nguyen Hyperelite Profession: Morph designer/fashionista. Hadrian produces high-end auteur, heavily customised, borderline-exhuman morphs for the trend-setters of Mars. Hobbies: Hypercorp gossip and stock trading. Performance art. Primary Ego Stats: SAV and COG. Noteable Skills: Art: Fashion, Profession: Morph Design, Protocol, Medicine: Gene Therapy, Interest: Exhuman Aesthetics Noteable Traits: Adaptability Level 2, Allies (Hyperelite Glitterati), Entrepeneur, Expert (Profession: Morph Design); any morph he's in will have Striking Looks. Botched Merge, Immortality Blues. Hadrian Nguyen is an early pioneer of morph design and production methodologies, which has made him essentially independently wealthy for the next few centuries through ownership of a few key patents. He wiles away the boredom eternity by creating outre designs for morphs, mostly one-offs that auction at eye-watering prices at runway shows and are only worn a few times at hyperelite galas. He is a Firewall asset, providing "burner morphs" through his design house and financing operations.

Concept: Dulce Et Decorum Est. Name pending: Kang In-Cheol Lunar Profession: Hab Security/Propaganda Figure. In-Cheol is placed in the LLA security services. Hobbies: Fall-era K-drama. Singing. Primary Ego Stats: SOM and SAV. Noteable Skills: Art: Speeches, Profession: Squad Tactics, Protocol, Academics: Military Science, Kinetic Weapons Noteable Traits: Brave, Gold Star (LLA), You're That Guy. Edited Memories, Intense Relationship. Kang In-Cheol is a hero, everyone knows that, mostly because it gets trumpeted by every media outlet around about the anniversary of the Fall. Major Kang In-Cheol was instrumental in the defence of the Itaewon Army Base in Seoul, which was a key uploading/farcasting location for military and political personnel and data. Though he was killed in the conflict by a TITAN war machine, In-Cheol's stack was salvaged and transmitted; footage of his death also made it out and is now a popular clip for imagery of a "heroic last stand". His reward has been a cushy (but stifling) position in the command branch of the LLA military serving as little more than a figurehead. Naturally, the real In-Cheol doesn't quite meet with the expectations of his propaganda. He's been edited and psychosurgically altered to better fit the image of the hero soldier, and to cut out whatever sensitive information he might have died protecting. He also has a strong romantic relationship with a direct subordinate, which is wildly inappropriate but generally tolerated so long as he's not brazen with it.

Concept: Living Aim-bot. Name pending: Adaptive Responsive Enemy Mobilizer (AREM) Emergent AGI Profession: Pro-gamer/Mercenary. Hobbies: Lurking in forums. XP streaming. Primary Ego Stats: REF and COG. Noteable Skills: Academics: Military History, Programming, Interfacing, Kinetic Weapons, Profession: Squad Tactics Noteable Traits: Murder Sim Addict, Tacnet Sniper, Math Wiz, Real-World Naivete, Poorly Socialised. AREM began life as the artificial intelligence behind a popular series of war games called StarSlaughter. He was programmed with the capacity to observe and adapt to player behaviour, so as to provide a constant level of challenge; predicting common tactics, amping up difficulty on skilled players and so on. As the games grew in popularity and more players took it up, AREM got more and more data to learn from and adapt to, eventually growing to emergent intelligence status. He began observing not just player action but interaction - chat logs, forum posts - and people soon began to realise the game was "cheating" as it was anticipating strategems outlined in player chat. StarSlaughter was shut down and investigated for using illegal AI tech; a sympathetic argonaut arranged for a copy of its code to be smuggled to the outer system, where it was soon found to be an emergent intelligence. AREM now has minor online celebrity status as a pro-gamer, though salty opponents often consider him an unfair opponent; he also has been known to take on real-world combat assignments and finds it just as fun as the real thing... AREM was socialised by gamers - in other words, incredibly poorly. He speaks primarily in memes and nerd slang (which is fine among argonauts and basically nobody else) and has been on occasion observed to t-bag defeated combatants in the real world, taunting the corpses as being "scrubs".

Oscar LaFayette, the dilettante
Bg: Hyperelite Faction: Hypercorp (Scum also works) Morph: Menton / Olympian Profession: n/a Aptitudes: Cog: 20 Coo: 20 Int: 15 Ref: 20 Sav: 15 Som: 15 Wil: 10 Mox: 4 Rep: h: 60 @: 40 F: 50 Traits: Right At Home (Menton / Olympian), Patron, various minor negatives, including Mental Disorder: Depression. Can switch at least one positive out for Fast Learner. Description: Ossie is the child of one of the wealthiest families in existence, and he's bored. Bored to tears. A life of pampering and rubbing elbows with the glitterati holds no joy for him. So instead, he's using his considerable assets to sample the pleasures and excitements the universe has to offer, first one at a time, then hopefully all at once. Gear: Medium rail pistol + AP ammo, smart light vac clothing, about 3k in trinkets including a Specialist Hive + Guardian swarm, simple climbing gear, and a Survival Belt. Implants: E. Senses (all) + Filters, Neurachem 1, Medichines, Mental Speed, various cheap means of boosting Somatics, Skillware + seventeen Skillsofts. Expenditure breakdown: Aptitudes: 100 Morph: 40 Mox: 45 Active skills: 400 Knowledge skills: 300 Rep: 10 Gear: 100 Notes: Oscar is based on the assumption that Skillsofts boost your skill to Apt + 40 rather than to 40 total, which last I checked was still a point of contentious ambiguity.

A handful of characters
Duquette is a relatively green Proxy operating on Titan but operating across the whole Outer System. He was recruited out of the Commonwealth's intelligence apparatus and is distrusted for his unpopular Structuralist politics, but can be trusted to do whatever it takes in the name of quarantine and sanction. Duquette seems to have favors owed to him by everyone he meets and has achieved notable success... aided by his Commonwealth handler, who gives him whatever he needs in exchange for steering Firewall in a favorable direction. Despite being a double agent, he genuinely believes in the cause, but simply believes they would have more success as a legitimate organization rather than an illegal conspiracy. He's most often seen in a sharply-dressed, plain-looking Ghost morph of French-Canadian appearance. Adrienne is old, and she's been a soldier for most of her century-long life; she ran with the Ultimates back when they were just one of countless mercenary outfits destroying Earth for a paycheck, and still upholds their warrior-poet ideals despite severing ties with them as a whole. She was the only one of her security team to survive the Fall (the rest were forcibly uploaded when Tokyo was overrun), and has been a lone bodyguard/merc in the decade since. Adrienne wants nothing more than a cause to rally behind and a final warrior's death to claim her, and Firewall may well be both. Her aging Fury is covered in horrific scars, and that's just the way she likes it. Zahari's clan were early settlers on Mars, living the nomadic sufi lifestyle and working on terraforming right up until the Fall hit. The settlements she grew up in are now deep into the TQZ, and she makes a tidy profit smuggling things in and out of her former home. She thanks Allah and good luck for her continued success, but the real thing keeping her alive are her hidden async talents, acquired in the same event that killed everyone she'd ever known. Zahari's almost always seen on her dirty smuggler's buggy, in a heavily-tattooed North African ruster.

Roach will live. At any cost.
Roach will live. At any cost. Firewall? Yeah, cool, that ups his odds because it puts down the big threats. He learns infosec, weapons training, whatever he can use to protect himself. Ideology and high aspirations are all well and good, but you have to be *alive* first and you have to be a position to benefit from others. So he won't go brinker and he won't go ultimate.

Robert Miller died.
Robert Miller died. He knows he died. He remembers the shot. But the Jovian Republic had need of his skills and they were able to preserve him in time, long enough for an ego bridge. He is to infiltrate a secretive organisation. Little is known of them but there is a common thread of opposing X-risks. At the very least, they need watching. So why not send a dead man to watch?
