Sunday weekly Roll20 campaign looking for another player.
I'm running a weekly game of Eclipse Phase that plays on Sundays, beginning at 4 PM EST (that is GMT-5) and running 'till late, which is usually around 8-10 PM. Recently we lost a couple of players due to the dreaded Real Life Obligations, and I'd like to recruit a few more. The game is run via roll20, text-only. It's a Firewall game, with the group's attentions split roughly evenly between Firewall stuff and entirely non-Firewall stuff. The amount of combat to roleplaying is a roughly average mix, but only as an average; there can be long stretches of non-combat sessions followed by several combat-heavy engagements in a row. I don't so much into the horror of the setting, so if you're hoping to have yourself freaked out, you're probably going to be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you like to confront monsters and obvious bad guys and kill them with fire, and do a lot of roleplay, much of which is freeform, you're in good company. The game does feature mature themes and does not shy away. By which I mean explicit death, violence, chemical warfare, forking and other existential questions, insurgence, exsurgence, slavery and other abrogations of personal autonomy, politics and politicking, and yes, sex. All of these have been and likely will be again featured in-chat, usually without any fade-to-black. That said, it is not specifically a sex game, but if sex, sexual situations, or player characters participating in sex with one another or NPCs, or player characters being in what are explicitly fetish morphs will make you uncomfortable, save yourself the discomfort. If, on the other hand, it sounds right up your alley, go ahead and apply. You can drop me a line on Skype or AIM (Skype preferred, since it's what most of the players currently use,) my SN on both is exactly the same as my SN here, we can talk about the game, character ideas, etc. The game is very homebrew friendly, and in fact the GM will invent custom morphs on-request. Chargen is core (if you really, really love the packages/lifepath from Transhuman, you're perfectly free to use them and then try to match them as carefully as you can,) The game is currently set on the Scum Swarm Get Your Ass to Mars, inbound to Titan from Mars after six months of travel. Characters can be from the Swarm, from the Commonwealth, from the greater Saturnine system, or from somewhere else if they have reason to be on the Swarm or in the Saturnine system at the time. I'm interested if you still have room
Hey, I'm a veteran Shadowrun player who's been wanting to play this game for years. I'm on the west coast, so your game time won't be a problem for me. I've looked through your docs, and I like the house rules- especially the armor rule, which this game really, really needs. I haven't used Roll20 before- my only experience with online play was JParanoia. But it looks easy to pick up. I've been thinking through a lot of character ideas, but there are three that I actually have fairly fleshed out. I'll present them in order of how easily they could fit into this campaign. Aaron Shrike, scum gonzo journalist (I want to change that name actually). He's sort of a cross between Hunter S. Thompson and Rick Steves- he travels around the solar system, partying and writing articles about his travels. Does some investigative pieces, but he's mainly become known for his highly entertaining travel and culture articles. In this campaign, he'd be spending a stint with Get Your Ass to Mars mainly so he can attend the scum olympics (and possibly compete in the gangbang). He has a few secrets though- first off, he moonlights as a spy for Special Outreach, the anarchist spy network. Rather than sneaking around and using fake IDs like other spies, he uses his real identity and journalistic career as a cover, playing on people's desire to be famous, and aided by enhanced senses which he uses to eavesdrop on people. Second, he's an async. He recently contracted Watts-McLeod on an extrasolar tour through Portal and some of the adjoining autonomist colonies. As he was working on what he expected to be the biggest article of his life, Firewall paid him a visit and convinced him to falsify his article to cover up the existence of the exsurgent virus. They also recruited him. His role in the group would mainly be a faceman. Strong social skills, a-rep and f-rep, some other reps and strong investigative skills, decent combat skills. His async abilities would mainly be around helping to gather information, but he'd be reluctant to use them since he still doesn't trust them and has ethical concerns around mindreading. Second idea: Jack "Jackdaw" Dawes, an AGI computer science expert. Jack survived the Fall on Earth, escaping to Titan. Spent a few years helping the Argonauts and the Titanians explore Iapetus before relocating to Get Your Ass to Mars. He also moonlights as a criminal hacker and data broker. Jack's not just an AI researcher dabbling in crime though- he's actually a closet singularity seeker, and wants to ascend to superintelligence, for a combination of selfish reasons and a belief that it's the only way to stand a chance against the Titans. His role on the team would be a hacker, drone jockey, and hardware specialist. The last idea is a mutualist warrior who fancies himself a sort of modern-day paladin. Working name is Ricard. Ricard was a French solider who fought in the fall, managed to get out alive, and settled in the belt. He believes in the old French ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity, and favors mutualism because he believes it maximizes freedom while still ensuring that society takes care of its people. He works as a mercenary, bodyguard, and security specialist, either hiring himself out for money, or volunteering for a worthy cause. Ricard is a one-man army, favoring combat morphs with ghostrider modules, allowing him to have a fork use the module to run his drones in combat. He'd have mostly combat and vehicle skills, with some technical and social skills. Wouldn't be great at lying and deceiving though, cause he's a freaking paladin. Those are the only ideas I really have fleshed out right now, but I'll play whatever the group needs to round it out. If you still have room, I'd love to meet the group.

Funny...
Funny... You're not even the first person to suggest a gonzo journalist in this game. We had one when we still back on Mars, but he dropped off the face of the planet and we forgot about him. I don't like the singularity seeker, though, but the French Paladin has some potential. That SAID... My players decided to go to Mimas. Specifically, to Harmonious Anarchy. It's a big habitat, sure, but you'd still need to find a reason for a character to be there. They went as part of a Scum Trading Mission, trading a metric shipload of scrap to have a hauler refitted into a flying recycling forge. Also, the players will have to weigh in.... But your ideas could work.

Awesome, I'd be down to play
Awesome, I'd be down to play whichever character fits the team better. Just realized I'm actually going to be busy with family stuff both this Sunday and next, so no hurry on the decision.

I may be able to join this
I may be able to join this game over these holidays, but probably can't make any long term commitments due to the game extending into early Monday morning in my time-zone. Would that be an issue? I have a decent ammount of experience playing role-playing-games in general, usually DnD or Pathfinder, but also some Scion. I have run a single game of EP (Think Before Asking), but never played. My character concept is summarised below. Akashwani is an infomorph refugee from the fall who is skilled in programming and infosec. He is a supporter of AGI rights and works with the Argonauts, though for some time now he has been travelling around with a scum swarm and has actively participated in their reputation economy. He uses three robots with ghost-rider modules, two saucers and a spec, and usually runs himself distributed between them, having more than enough mental speed to remote control them all. The saucers are armed for light combat, but he usually prefers to use hacking, networking, and deception to get his way. He was a researcher for the Singularity Foundation before the Fall, working on AI projects. When the Fall struck, he was stuck on Earth and had to ego-cast out, leaving his old body to who-knows-what indignities at the hands of the TITANs. He lost contact with his colleagues during this time, and was never re-sleeved. He spent some time working for the Argonauts on AI research, but also branched out into infosec and open-sourcing blueprints. Some time between then and now, he ended up joining a scum swarm and working on his projects on the move, farcasting his progress back to the Argonauts whenever the swarm came within range of a hab. More recently, he was contacted by an old colleague from the SF who scouted him for Firewall (firewall always needs infosec specialists). He has decided to use his position on a scum swarm as an excuse to travel from place to place and troubleshoot for Firewall. Akwashwani is a fully generated character, but I am willing to spend some time making a few tweeks for your game before starting. Is this okay?

Definitely: Okay, fair enough
Definitely: Okay, fair enough. Poke at me when you want to talk about it. Eagle: I am leery about you not being able to make long-term time commitments. I do like the character, though, but I am leery about your player situation. Oh, and to all prospective players: I'm not going to chase you. If you want in, you need to keep my attention, keep messaging me with revisions to your character, suggestions, etc. I will forget about you very rapidly otherwise.

Well, I've been looking to try my hand at EP if you wouldn't mind a first timer. So far the character I've got is a former rodent uplift, part of the Scum, and mostly prefers to be in a Scurrier body that's been heavily modified with implants since he enjoys a body close to what he was born in and it's not like the game has rodent uplift morphs in the core rules. Little fuzzball is an accomplished surgeon, both of flesh and mind. Tad lacking in direct combat skills though. I haven't built him with the house rules in mind, so I'd need to do that, and would you mind if I added you to Skype?

Sorry, everybody. But the game is currently full. Eagle0600 is in, barring extenuating circumstances.
