Solved---Confused with Character Creation
So... Disregard this post. We're both tired and were editing the wrong part of the character creation. We figured it out. It just took the magic of publicly announcing that we're being stupid to realize that we were being stupid. So, I'm getting ready to GM an Eclipse Phase game, and I've never played before. My boyfriend has never played either, and he ran into problems going through character creation tonight. He's using the oook character creation page and I started him with 1,000 CP. He's fleshed his character out as he sees fit and is still left with 557.5 I admit, I haven't sat down to really troubleshoot it yet -- today was super long and I don't have the brainpower right now. But even if I did, I don't know that the problem would immediately be obvious to me. I'm really hoping one of the brilliant people here will be able to point out what us noobs are doing wrong. I was going to upload the file, but I'm not quite sure how to do that with a .json. Help? Update Okay, so after posting this he showed me what's going on with the character creation thing. It looks like the website itself is messing up. It isn't deducting the right amount of CP when he assigns points to things. Is this a known thing?

Skills
Have you made sure to meet the minimum skill values? You need a minimum of 400 CP in active and 300 CP in knowledge, which handily ties up 700 points in mandatory stuff. If you're having trouble with the character generator (which, admittedly, I don't have so I have no idea how it works) an Excel sheet can help keep track of your math. Note that it's CP invested, not ranks that matter. If, say, you happen to have the Infolife background giving you that 50% discount on computer skills, you're going to end up with way more than 400 total ranks in active by the time you hit 400 CP (unless you're buying an equal amount of double-price social skills to balance it out). Also keep in mind that ranks above 60 cost double. Once you've gotten mandatory skills out of the way (which yes, you'll probably be stretching a bit to cram 300 points into Knowledge in a way that makes sense/doesn't feel wasteful), that should leave you only 300 left to spend on... everything else. Including more skills, if you feel the need to go beyond the minimum or just have some CP left over at the end. Don't forget that Moxie is 15 CP per point and Aptitudes are 10 CP per point, great places to burn CP up fast (and usually worth it). Edit: Ah, I see you figured it out while I was typing this up. Never mind then. ^_^
End of line.

Not to bump a should-be-dead
Not to bump a should-be-dead thread, but I just wanted to shoot a quick apology to @R.O.S.S.-128 because I posted something that I answered directly after. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question, even though I was just being dumb, you're awesome. ^,^
