Firewall - What's in it?
Hi, I think I'm not alone when I'm saying that I have that feeling. You know, the feeling that there will be a new, lovely sourcebook for Eclipse Phase soon. Firewall, isn't it? :) But I've never really understood what kind of book Firewall will be. Of course, inside information about the organization Firewall is a given, but what else? Have there been any word about this? Anyway, really looking forward to it, and that new short story got me really excited about Eclipse Phase again. :) -Eirik

There's a 104 page chapter (chapter, hah!) called "Firewall," and 44-page chapter called "Other Groups," and then 16 pages of Sample Characters and 24 pages of Game Info.
Preview of the full table of contents should be coming soon.

I'll tell you what it doesn't have: - atheist space Jesuits (changed them to be mostly not atheist) - a table of Titanian Coast Guard officer ranks (had to cut it) - stats for robot cats that explode (wait, no... we kept that bit) We sincerely hope no former or active duty officers of the Titanian Coast Guard is offended. We appreciate your service to the Commonwealth.

I'm really intrigued by the concept of space Jesuits; and i have some questions: they are bad or good guys? They are mostly good but with a leadership that has a hidden agenda? They strive for a singularity like transcendence? Is Teilhard de Chardin somewhat involved in their philosophy?

They're more like Latin American social justice types (in the older sense of social justice, not the highly diluted sense used in internet flame wars). We don't mention de Chardin, but yeah, probably some of the more out there ones would be into him. You could have one who was like async Fraa Jad, I suppose, too. Sorry, not going to answer any more questions until the next official posting. :)

Speaking of Church matters... Do you plan to officially introduce Inquisition to battle memetic heresy too? In my games I've introduced Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. It was re-instanced in 1AF to verify correctness of body of Gospels, writings of doctors of Church and papal encyclicals saved from the Fall. Amid the chaos of Dataclysm, Church officials feared that the writings could have been corrupted by memetic virii. The Office still works on less fundamental works but due to papal demand as soon as in the late 2AF work on Gospels and Paulian Letters was finished. Indeed, it found a subtle left-wing skewing and corrected it. Both teachings and rites were affected. Unfortunately, it caused a minor schism (mainly outside the realm of Jovian Republic) - schismatics accused the Office of rewriting the texts according to demands of Junta to bring the Church doctrine closer to Junta needs. How do you like it? :)

At least you have time to correct errors in the TOC until the final release. All the red entries (these are side boxes, right?) from page 59 to 102 are listed under 'Relations with others'. By the way guys: An operative named 'Das Frettchen'? I so hoped at least that was a joke :D

Oh, that's an interesting bug. Note that it doesn't manifest for other AR windows in the TOC...

We don't make a habit of sending emails via DriveThru when a new book is released. We try to limit that to updates and special deals. The front page blog was updated, all our social media was updated. Mailing list stuff will go out next week after the book is sent to the printers.

I remember how much was cut from previous books that I helped proofread. So much good material that just doesn't fit into the flow of the book, or can't fit into the word count. It's such a shame.

In Know Evil the term Space Lumber was used early by Caleb and the group made fun of it. If I recall correctly. It then became a term used to describe crap that filled up cargo holds that was irrelevant to the party. So anti Mcguffin I guess.

Well, that's kinda handy. :) Does the Titanian military just crib the NATO rank structure wholesale? One of my players is a Titanian Navy Officer, and that would simplify things considerably. (Note: I skipped over the section on other parties in Firewall, partly because it was dragging on, but also partly because I'm a player in a Titan-based police special services game and I wanted to maybe not go and expose myself to stuff my GM might plan to pull on me. At least for now. When my own game gets to Titan, all bets are off. Anyway, apologies if this question was answered in a part of the book I skipped.)

Fleet follows the RAF, except that the topmost ranks are called Sky Marshals (because Heinlein titles for socialists == funny). Other services are NATO-y. Cops are mostly civilian, ordered by districts (which is the pattern for most Scandinavian police services). Virtual "districts" often exist for abstract things like mesh crime. Jovian ranks are 'Murcan.

So looking forward to the print pre-order, this is a book I want in my sweaty lil' hands more than any but core and Transhuman. I know maybe this is probably just because I've read every book cover-to-cover and have a lot to draw on and connect when I'm reading Firewall, but I seriously think it's the best EP book out yet. It sparks exponentially more ideas for characters than plot ideas, and I'm drowning in plot ideas. And knowing that the next Big Book docking distantly at the end of the pipeline it'll be coming down is X-Risks is just sweet, delicious icing. Not on the cake, I'm just eating a bucket of icing in this extended metaphor at this point.
